Jakob Junis tosses five shutout innings against A's on Wednesday

Jakob Junis pitched five shutout innings on Wednesday against the A's, giving up four hits while walking one. He struck out six and did not factor into the decision.

Fantasy Impact:

For his second straight outing, Junis had an opener and then followed with five shutout innings. Since coming to San Francisco, he has leaned heavily into his slider, throwing it 56% of the time on Wednesday and 50.8% of the time in total in his two starts. He's seen a corresponding drop in his fastball usage, which he used to throw about a third of the time, but so far has deployed just 4.9% of the time. Junis's slider has always been good, but before fantasy managers get too excited at his success, remember that he's faced two sub-par offenses in Washington and Oakland. He'll likely piggyback Sam Long next week against the Dodgers, which should show us whether his hot start is for real.
