RP - MIA
Expert NoteView More Notes
Kintzler will open the year as the Marlins' closer, and had a fine, bounceback season in 2019 with the Cubs. But his strikeout rate is poor and he'll be a prime candidate to get dealt at the trade deadline. With a shortened season, Kintzler's value is even lower than it otherwise would have been, which is not particularly high anyway.

Brandon Kintzler tosses a scoreless inning Wednesday
Marlins reliever Brandon Kintzler did not allow a baserunner over an inning of work on Wednesday, earning his third hold of the Spring.
Kintzler is expected to begin the year as the closer in Miami, though it is not a given that he keeps the job for the entire season. With the rebuilding Marlins likely to sell at the trade deadline, Kintzler could be a midseason trade candidate. On top of that, the veteran right-hander will have to hold off in-house candidate Ryne Stanek for the job.

Closers feel like more reliable investments this season than starting pitchers, many of whom will not see anything close to their usual workloads and face greater-than-usual injury risk as they attempt to ramp up their arm strength during an abbreviated "Spring Training."
