Quarterback
Alex Smith – Kansas City Chiefs ($34)
vs. Detroit Lions
Smith is a top value play at quarterback this week as he will take on a Lions’ defense that is struggling to limit opposing quarterbacks. They are currently allowing quarterbacks to score the ninth-most fantasy points per game at 18.6. In addition, the Detroit pass defense is ranked thirty-first in DVOA by Football Outsiders. Smith is never a very exciting play, but based off his matchup, there’s some potential this week.
Other notables:
- Brian Hoyer ($35)
- Jameis Winston ($33)
- Jay Cutler ($32)
- Nick Foles ($28)
Running Back
Charcandrick West – Kansas City Chiefs ($17)
vs. Detroit Lions
West disappointed in his first week as a starter but he more than made up for it last week. West rushed for 110 yards and one touchdown against the Steelers, adding two catches for 19 yards. The Lions’ defense does not pose much of a threat as they have allowed 10 rushing touchdowns so far this season and an average of 22.0 points per game to running backs. It appears that West has the starting running back spot to himself as Knile Davis only saw one carry last week. West is a starting running back with a great price and he needs to be seriously considered for your lineups this week.
Other notables:
- Ronnie Hillman ($17)
- Antonio Andrews ($17)
- Charles Sims ($15)
- Darren McFadden ($13)
Wide Receiver
Michael Crabtree – Oakland Raiders ($17)
vs. New York Jets
Crabtree stands to see some extra targets this week as top Oakland receiver Amari Cooper should be seeing a lot of Darrelle Revis, which should funnel targets Crabtree’s way. Crabtree has been targeted extensively by Derek Carr over his first six games in Oakland, seeing 56 over that span. He has converted just 33 of those targets into catches, but last week was encouraging as he was able to haul in six-of-eight balls and score a touchdown.
Other notables:
- Mike Evans ($24)
- Brandin Cooks ($20)
- Willie Snead ($18)
- Nate Washington ($17)
- Michael Floyd ($17)
Tight End
Ladarius Green – San Diego Chargers ($14)
@ Baltimore Ravens
It appears that Antonio Gates will be sidelined for yet another week with a sprained MCL. This means Green will have tight end duties to himself against the Ravens in Week 8. In four games that Gates hasn’t played this season, Green has posted 18 catches for 218 yards and three touchdowns. He is an excellent value this week, even in a subpar matchup against a Ravens’ defense that has been tough against tight ends.
Other notables:
- Delanie Walker ($19)
- Eric Ebron ($19)
- Ben Watson ($19)
Defense
Kansas City Chiefs ($10)
vs. Detroit Lions
The Lions aren’t too far removed from a six-turnover blowup a few weeks ago. Even though they fired offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi there might not be much difference with Jim Caldwell still in charge. One of Detroit’s main problems this year has been poor offensive line play, so the Chiefs have a chance to come after Stafford hard on Sunday.
Other notables:
- Tennessee Titans ($10)
- Houston Texans ($10)
