Bryce Harper

Bryce Harper could carry your fantasy team if he catches fire

We have passed the MLB trade deadline and many fantasy leagues are starting to approach their own trade deadlines. So, with less than two months to go in the season if you want to make an impact in the standings you will need to look to make a “splash trade” by dealing or acquiring some big name players who could help you make a significant improvement in a short period of time.

Buy

Bryce Harper (WAS – OF)
Harper has not had the MVP type of season that he was expected to have, batting just .234 with 20 homers on the year including a .176 mark with four homers and 10 RBI in July. While acquiring a first round talent such as Harper will never be easy, now could be the best time to try and make a deal for the 23-year-old outfielder with the hopes that he can go on a tear and help carry you to a fantasy championship.

Francisco Liriano (TOR – SP)
Liriano has pitched very poorly this season with a 5.46 ERA and 1.62 WHIP. He should be easy to acquire and may even be a free agent in your league. With his recent trade to Toronto, a change of scenery to the American League could be just what he needs to go on a hot streak. He still has big strikeout upside with a 9.18 K/9 this season and possesses a SIERA almost a full run less than his ERA.

Other potential “buy” candidates: Matt Kemp (ATL – OF), Trevor Bauer (CLE – SP)

Sell

Joey Votto (CIN – 1B)
Votto has put together another solid season for the Reds batting .293 with 18 homers, 66 runs and 54 RBI. However, now that Jay Bruce has been traded to the Mets, Votto does not have the lineup protection and run producer hitting behind him in the lineup. Look for Votto to continue to get on base, but his run production stats (runs and RBI) will likely suffer over the last couple months of the season.

Aaron Sanchez (TOR – SP)
Sanchez has pitched great this season with an 11-1 record, 2.71 ERA and 1.13 WHIP but he will soon be moving to the bullpen as the Blue Jays try to limit his innings. He is worth shopping around your league to see if anyone will still pay for him as a starting pitcher or as a keeper for future seasons in exchange for a player to help you win this year.

Other potential “sell” candidates: Ryan Braun (MIL – OF), Rick Porcello (BOS – SP)
