Five Burning Questions for Week 10

Five Burning Questions for Week 10
Has Will Fuller fully fallen off the fantasy radar?

Has Will Fuller fully fallen off the fantasy radar?

The NFL season continues to fly by and each week becomes more important to finding the latest value to push you into the playoffs and to a fantasy championship. Key running backs Doug Martin and Dion Lewis could be set for a return, but it is more likely their impact will be felt next week. That said, here are the five stories I’m watching this week.

Is this Alshon Jeffery’s breakout game?

Jeffery has remained an explosive option for the Bears’ offense, but he has found the end zone only once this season. With only five targets inside the 15 all season, that is little surprise.

Jay Cutler’s return should help his output, as the two have worked well together in the past and connected on Jeffery’s one and only touchdown this season. Even better for this week, Tampa Bay has been a great matchup for wide receivers this season, so everything could come together for Jeffery to have a nice Week 10 performance.

Is Will Fuller someone to ignore moving forward?

Fuller started the season hot as he had either a touchdown or 100 receiving yards in three of his first four NFL games. However, in his last three games, he has six receptions and 49 yards combined with no touchdowns. That fluctuation overlaps in large part with the ebbs and flows of quarterback Brock Osweiler’s performance.

Whether hampered by the performance of his quarterback or by a “rookie wall,” Fuller hasn’t looked the same lately. Jacksonville has been a relatively stingy pass defense this year, so this may not be the week to expect a bounce back. It’s worth watching moving forward, however, as Fuller has the potential to be one of the most explosive wide receivers in the league.

Has Rishard Matthews emerged as a viable weekly starter?

Matthews had shown glimpses of potential since Week 5, but all of a sudden he’s taken much more of a spotlight in the fantasy community. Of course, three touchdowns over two weeks will do that. The risk is that he isn’t a target hog and Tennessee doesn’t throw the ball at a high rate.

Furthermore, Matthews has just five targets inside the 15 all season, so in the past few weeks, he has made the best of low targets and high efficiency. He’s a fine bye week replacement or third wide receiver, but now could be the time to fade in DFS formats with a rising price and likely rising ownership.

Can Jason Witten do it again?

In the past few weeks, Witten has turned back time posting some of his strongest games since 2013. This week, he will face yet another favorable matchup as the Cowboys take on the Steelers.

The Cowboys may be forced into the playing a faster pace than they prefer given the Steelers’ offensive prowess at home, and that could lead to more pass attempts than usual. Dak Prescott has been hesitant to throw the ball downfield, so that leaves Witten and Cole Beasley as the potential benefactors this week if the Cowboys are forced to pace up.

Is J.J. Nelson the Arizona wide receiver to own?

Nelson has taken over as the Cardinals’ number two receiver according to Coach Arians and given the disappointment of Michael Floyd and the health issues John Brown is battling that isn’t much of a surprise. Larry Fitzgerald faded down the stretch last season, and while he has been strong to this point in the season, it’s hard not to have last season’s fade in the back of our minds. Nelson has emerged in the past two weeks.

Against Seattle, when nothing was working for either offense, Nelson averaged 28 yards per reception and had 84 receiving yards. Prior to the Cardinals’ bye week, Nelson recorded two touchdowns at Carolina. Now he will have the chance to shred through the 49ers porous defense, and it’s time to see what he can do.
