Q3. What is your general strategy tip for Round 7?
This round has some really good players — both safe veterans and upside youngsters alike. If you need power, grab Donaldson, Soler, Bell, or Gallo with confidence. The multi-category contributors are also tempting in LeMahieu, Semien, and Robert. I’m particularly bullish on Robert because of his combo power/stolen base potential on an ascending White Sox team. Kirby Yates is my bust of the bunch, considering he is a closer, and I won’t be drafting one this early when so many stud hitters are available.
– Jarad Evans (@Jarad_Evans)
Pitchers typically dry out by this point, and I’m not going to reach for Yates or a risky, next-best-starter type like Bauer. The value all stems from the hitting side. Donaldson, Ozuna, Semien, and Bell are all worthy targets, but you’ll likely be able to get one of them even later while snagging someone like Nelson Cruz who fell.
– Andrew Gould (@AndrewGould4)
A lot of these guys are more interesting in certain league types, so you should be keeping your league settings in mind in a big way here. Joey Gallo is a super stud in a league that replaces batting average with OBP, and there are lots of potential stolen bases in this round as well. Draft for upside and for your league settings here — you could be finding an absolute gem.
– Jon Anderson (@JonPGH)
“Value” is the only appropriate word in Round 7, but it’s not because we can find it anywhere. It’s because the only target at this point should be value. Someone is bound to fall into this range that should have gone a dozen picks earlier, and therein lies the use of value. In the opposite direction, I have no interest in taking a chance on someone that could hurt my team in this range, and I would actually rather reach into the next tiers than settle. Here, I’m trading the all-important “value” for upside.
– Mario Mergola (@MarioMergola)
There are some very realistic top-30 overall players in this round, led by Ozuna and LeMahieu. I’ve likely taken two SPs by now, so I will be focusing on getting my top-ranked hitter, assuming that I like where my stolen bases are at. If I need speed rather than power and a nice spot in the order, Robles is a great pick here. I’m not one to target closers early, so I’ll let Yates slide by in this range.
– Carmen Maiorano (@carmsclubhouse)
I would highly recommend getting Marcus Semien in this round, as he was quite literally one of the best players in all of baseball last season. If he is already off the board, Luis Robert, Marcell Ozuna, and Joey Gallo make for excellent targets as well.
– Bobby Sylvester (@bobbyfantasypro)
This is a quality round, with many high-floor, high-ceiling players. If I walk away with any of these players other than Tim Anderson and Jorge Soler, two guys I generally avoid, I’m happy, Because I have usually focused on average and speed early, I love grabbing Joey Gallo here, who was on his way to a borderline MVP season before getting derailed. But truly, the vast majority of the hitters in this round are fine picks.
