Sunday’s Starting Pitcher Strategy

My core philosophy when it comes to playing DFS is to build my lineups around high-end starting pitchers. It’s the most important position to get right when it comes to daily fantasy, and it’s nearly impossible to overcome a situation where your SP falls short of expectations. Innings pitched and strikeouts are just worth too many points, which is why I only consider aces when they’re available on a given slate.

Brandon Woodruff (MIL) @CHC
The 28-year-old right hander is the arm I’m building lineups around this afternoon. Through four starts Woodruff has posted a 1.96 ERA with 26 strikeouts in 23 innings pitched. However, those season-long numbers include his lackluster first start of the year. Since then, Woodruff has allowed just two earned runs in his last three starts, and he has pitched at least six innings in all of them. His combination of projected workload, strikeouts, and strong advanced stats (91st percentile xwOBA and xERA) make him the No. 1 pitching option on today’s slate.
