Ian Kennedy injures hamstring against the San Francisco Giants

by LaShawn Encarnacion | Fri, Apr 10th 11:32am EDT

Ian Kennedy left the Padres home opener after just 2 1/3 inning pitched with a hamstring strain. "I just felt something grab and [in the third inning] I could feel it slowly and slowly getting tighter," Kennedy said. He had to that point thrown 33 pitches with just two hits allowed, two walks and two strikeouts. Padres ended up losing to the Giants 1-0 in 12 innings. "This could be a possible disabled list [stint]. It's a mild hamstring strain. Those are tricky. Our doctors have looked at him," said Padres manager Bud Black.

Fantasy Impact:

Ian Kennedy is heading to the 15-day DL. His replacement, Odrismer Despaigne made his case for replacing Kennedy as he retired all 14 batters he faced in relief. He might be worth a pick up off the waiver-wire as Bud Black has confirmed that Despaigne will make Kennedy's next scheduled start against the Diamondbacks Tuesday.
