Frankie Montas takes no-hit bid into eight inning on Thursday

by Brad Richter | Reds Correspondent | Fri, Jun 24th 10:37am EDT

Frankie Montas had a no-hitter going until two outs in the eighth inning on Thursday before giving up back-to-back singles. He finished with eight shutout innings allowing just the two hits and two walks with eight strikeouts. Unfortunately, Montas took a no-decision as the A's blew the lead in the ninth of a 2-1 loss to the Mariners.

Fantasy Impact:

Montas continues to shine for the last-place A's lowering his ERA to 3.21. He holds a strong 3.10 xFIP and 9.2 K/9 rate this season and will likely be a popular trade target for contending clubs at the trade deadline. Montas has a tough matchup in his next scheduled start on Tuesday on the road against the Yankees in what should be the first of two starts in the week. His second start is scheduled against the same Mariners club he just flirted with a no-hitter.
