Gerrit Cole fans eight Mariners in no decision Tuesday

Gerrit Cole pitched seven innings, allowing no runs on four hits and no walks while striking out right in New York’s 13-inning loss in Seattle on Tuesday night.

Fantasy Impact:

Cole looked great against a Mariners team that has given him trouble in the past, including his last start, but was matched pitch for pitch by Seattle’s newly acquired starter Luis Castillo. Cole’s performance was a welcome sight for his fantasy owners who had watched him toss three clunkers in a row before Tuesday. Cole also threw his first scoreless outing since seven shutout innings against Cincinnati back on July 12 before the All-Star Break. Cole remains at 9-4 with a 3.38 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and a Major League-leading 178 strikeouts in 138 1/3 innings across 23 starts. Cole will try a fifth time for his elusive 10th victory of the year in his next start on Monday at home against the Rays.
