Esmil Rogers allows a run for his second straight outing

Esmil Rogers pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed two hits and one run. Rogers now has a 2.89 ERA.

Fantasy Impact

After allowing one run in his first nine innings, Rogers has allowed two runs in 2 1/3 innings in his past two appearances. He has also not had as much distance in games, as he averaged three innings per appearance in five appearances from April 9 to April 28, but has pitched 3 1/3 innings over his past three appearances. He also had 15 strikeouts in those 15 innings and only one in his past three. Rogers is not a fantasy target, but has been a decent long relief option for the Yankees this season.

Esmil Rogers pitches a bumpy inning for the Yankees

Rogers pitched an inning against the Red Sox last night, allowing a three-run home run to Mike Napoli to move the Red Sox closer at 8-5. Two of the runs were charged to starter Adam Warren and Rogers allowed two hits, one walk, and struck out one batter.

Fantasy Impact

Rogers had won on Friday night and the sixth inning run is only the fifth that Rogers had allowed in 17 1/3 innings. Rogers has a 1.04 WHIP this season and 17 strikeouts against only five walks. One issue for Rogers is that he has allowed three home runs this season; in fact, four of the five runs that Rogers has allowed this season are off of home runs. Rogers had only allowed 1.18 home runs per nine innings coming into 2015 and if he is able to curtail his home runs allowed, he will be even more valuable.

Esmil Rogers excels for the Yankees

Esmil Rogers pitched another scoreless inning for the Yankees, allowing just one walk in the seventh inning against the Red Sox. After allowing that walk to Dustin Pedroia, he induced a double play from Red Sox slugger David Ortiz.

Fantasy Impact

Rogers now has a 2.20 ERA and has become a major part of the Yankees bullpen this season. He has four walks and 16 strikeouts this season; his WHIP this season is 0.98, a stark improvement from his 1.56 career WHIP entering the season. Rogers entered 2015 as a long man for the Yankees, but has shown that he can work in the later innings of games too with his performance against Boston. He may not have fantasy value, but he has been impressive this season.

Esmil Rogers continues to be an unsung hero for the Yankees

Rogers pitched 2 2/3 innings against the Rays on Tuesday night, allowing one hit, striking out five batters and walking one batter. Rogers now has a 2.35 ERA this season.

Fantasy Impact

Rogers may get an opportunity in the rotation, as Masahiro Tanaka is now on the disabled list, but that may not be the best idea for the Yankees. Rogers had a 7.05 ERA in 2011 with the Rockies, his only season where he was a full-time starter, but has pitched more than 70 innings in a season three times. Rogers has a 4.06 ERA since coming to the Yankees on July 31, 2014, but has seen his greatest improvement this season with a cut in walks to 1.76 per nine innings.

Esmil Rogers stellar in mop up duty against the Mets

Coming in with a runner on first after CC Sabathia pitched five innings, Esmil Rogers allowed that runner, Juan Lagares, to score, but pitched three strong innings. Rogers allowed three hits, one run, and struck out three batters.

Fantasy Impact

Rogers has pitched 12 2/3 innings this season and has a 2.92 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP; those numbers may be good enough for Rogers to challenge Adam Warren for the fifth spot in the rotation. Rogers also has 11 strikeouts this season and only two walks allowed. Warren has a 5.40 ERA and eight walks in 15 innings this season and the Yankees may very soon look to Rogers to fill the backend of the rotation.
