FantasyPros
We all know Brown was a monster over the second half of the season, finishing as the No. 8 wide receiver from Week 7 through Week 16. The issue... he was 47th in targets over that span. That screams regression. While he should progress as a player in his second season, we must anticipate regression with his efficiency. In a run-first offense, Brown should be considered a WR2/3 with upside for more.Prior to getting hurt and having his season cut short, Ridley was on pace for 1,066 yards and eight touchdowns in 2019, which would have had him as the WR14. Now going into his third NFL season, there's a real chance for a breakout, though Julio Jones isn't going away any time soon. If you want to know if there's room for both to be WR1s, look no further than the Bucs last year with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, though it's rare for that to happen. Still, Ridley is an ascending talent and the Falcons didn't add a receiver of significance to replace Mohamed Sanu.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Brown was the first wide receiver ever to put up at least 1,000 receiving yards on fewer than 90 targets, but the achievements don't stop there. He was third in yards per route run among wide receivers with at least 50 targets, second in passer rating when targeted, and first in yards per target. And that's to say nothing of the fact that Brown did all of this as a rookie who didn't even play at least 69.4% of the snaps until Week 9. The Titans aren't going to be a pass-heavy offense but Brown should still see an increase in targets, which should offset any decrease in his efficiency. Expect another big year from the wideout.
Jason Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Last season, Ryan Tannehill ranked first in True Throw Value (TTV). A stat created by brotofantasy.com, true throw value measures a QB's efficiency throwing the ball. This certainly played into Brown's absurd efficiency last season, but I am happily doubling down on it. If you take a look at Tannehill's TTV two seasons ago with Miami, he finished 6th for all QBs. So Tannehill's efficiency is no fluke and neither is AJ Brown's skillset.WR 29 in PPG his rookie season and WR 17 in PPG last season. The arrow is pointing up for Ridley and he has a very safe floor. He won't have the overall WR1 upside that those around him like Evans and AJ Brown have, but he also has less questions.
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
Brown's not going to be able to repeat his unsustainable efficiency in 2020, but he could see his target totals go up. Ryan Tannehill trusts him and he's likely to be a fringe WR1 all season long. I'm absolutely comfortable taking Brown at his current ADP as my WR2.There may not be more of a value in all of fantasy football ADP right now than Ridley. He's connected to one of the best offenses in the NFL and he's essentially a lock to see over 115 targets if he plays all 16 games. At his current ADP, Ridley's a home run selection and has the potential of finishing the season as a WR1.
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
AJ Brown was by far my favourite WR prospect last year but even I didn't expect his enormous late-season breakout. With teams focussed on the Titans' running game, Brown was tremendously efficient, averaging over 20 yards per reception in an extraordinary display of efficiency. That won't happen again. While Brown should see a big jump in targets compared to his 84 last season, I can see massive TD and efficiency regression making him a risky weekly play. He is likely to have a lot of bust weeks and quite a few huge weeks. If you can handle that variance, go for it, I prefer a little more safety outside Best Ball leagues of course, where he's a stud.Calvin Ridley is the definition of a breakout candidate going into his third season. With Sanu and Hooper out of town and an offence that will need to continue throwing a lot, Ridley should be a strong fantasy option with massive upside if he can start to take over from Julio Jones. Just remember though, there's no guarantee the breakout happens this year so don't pay for his ceiling.
Kevin Wheeler
Draftwize
In the final seven games, he earned a solid No. 1 role with 25% of the team's targets and 38% of their air yards; resulting in 622 receiving yards in those games. - He was noticeably absent in the playoffs which scares me a bit.Matt Ryan has supported 2 Top 24 PPR WRs four times in his career. Amongst active QBs, only Aaron Rodgers has more seasons of supporting 2 Top 24 WRs. @ClutchFantasy He's been pegged as a potential breakout player this year on one of the pass-heaviest offense in the league. Weeks 1-14 last season, he was the WR14 overall. @SWallace_FF
Seth Miller
Crossroads Fantasy Football
Started playing 65% of the snaps or more in week 9. From that point: 6.25 targets a game, 30/703/5, with the occasional rush. He was nice enough to make that an 8 game sample so just x2 for fun. Growing into a stud, struggled down the stretch but that encouraging thing is that he was very successful against man coverage. Where he faltered was zone coverage, and I think that's something he'll improve on with his work ethic and as he see's the field better. Former Saints DB, Kenny Vaccaro, is constantly telling AJ, "Mike(Michael Thomas) would still be working right now", really helping to instill a good work ethic on Brown, knowing what it takes to be the best. The problem? PASSING VOLUME. With Tanny under center the Titans averaged 27 attempts per game, they were already 31st overall, that would put them 32nd.Getting out targeted by Austin Hooper in the same amount of games can't feel great. Has been a TD king up to this point. My only small worry for guys like Ridley and McLaurin. They come out as seniors, basically fully developed, and we expect them to continue taking large steps forward when they most likely came out of college as more of a finished product, near their ceiling. However, now that Hooper has left, I would expect a better season, just based on target volume.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Brown established himself as one of the premier deep threats in the league as a rookie with 52 receptions, 1,051 yards, 20.2 yards per reception, and 8 touchdowns. He is the Titans lead receiver and he should be a WR1 playing with QB Ryan Tannehill.Ridley was solid with 900 yards from scrimmage and 7 touchdowns, but he needs to work on consistency to be more than a WR3.
