Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
Sure, Montgomery finished as the RB4 last year. There were many factors that led to that, particularly the injury to Tarik Cohen, freeing up tons of targets in the passing game. Over the course of Montgomery's short career, he's played 19 games with Cohen and 12 games without him. In the games with Cohen, he averaged 2.32 targets per game. In the 12 games without him, that number rose to 4.92 targets per game. Well, Cohen is back, and the team signed Damien Williams, who's a better receiving back than Montgomery. On top of Cohen missing, the Bears had a ridiculously easy schedule down the stretch, playing against the Packers twice, Lions, Texans, Vikings, and Jaguars to close out the season. Did you know that Montgomery was the RB20 after 10 weeks (prior to starting that schedule)? He's a fine low-end RB2, but don't go about your day thinking you're getting a steal in the fourth round or anything. There's no denying it... when Mostert is healthy and on the field, he's a beast. He's turned 282 career carries into 1,590 yards and 11 touchdowns. But that's the issue, he's never healthy. There's a reason he's 29 years old and has just 282 carries on his frame. Have the 49ers lost patience? They traded up to draft Trey Sermon in the third round, which could indicate they're ready to move on from Mostert, or it could be them ensuring they have a high-quality backup for if/when he gets injured. Mostert tallied at least 14 carries in 5-of-8 starts last year, which is more than enough to get into RB2 territory with his efficiency, but you can't draft him as such when injuries/Sermon are factored in. He's not someone you can confidently draft as a starter for your fantasy team because there's so much unknown. However, if he gets the job back, this is a pick that can make a difference in fantasy leagues. The 49ers have one of the easiest schedules in the league, so if they let Mostert get rolling, he's unlikely to slow down.

Sleepers and Busts
The addition of OT Teven Jenkins in the draft helps bolster a Bears line that badly needed an upgrade. The scouting report on Jenkens is he is a mauler. Hopefully he can pass block too. Chicago also traded up to take a certain QB who played his college ball at THE Ohio State University, Justin Fields. Monty needs this offense to take a step forward and score some TDs for him to reach his potential. I'm still skeptical. After all this is the Bears we're talking about.

*UPDATE* I do LOVE the Fields pick for this entire offense. No one finished hotter, but Montgomery preyed on weakest SOS and w/ no Cohen stealing work and now Damien Williams is here w/ Matt "Too Cute" Nagy returning to OC after Bill Lazor called the shots for DMont's explosion. Everything's stacking up ugly, besides Fields... which could offset it all.Trey Sermon's addition has his starting role in serious jeopardy, but Mostert has always balled when offered the opportunity
Joe Pisapia
FantasyPros
Raheem Mostert will probably never reach his 2019 season peak. He was more of a back that was in the right system at the right time and there's plenty of competition in house with Wayne Gallman, Trey Sermon and eventually Jeffrey Wilson Jr. As a fantasy investment, Mostert has more questions than answers and that makes him limited in his fantasy upside. There are better picks at similar ADP at the position.
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
I was the one pounding the drum for David Montgomery last season when he was being drafted as the 25th RB off the board. With that being said, in no way did I anticipate a top-5 finish! Despite a truly terrible offense, Montgomery produced for fantasy managers and helped deliver some titles with his dominant stretch to end the year. Unfortunately, we shouldn't be expecting that same level of dominance in 2021. Tarik Cohen will be back and healthy, which means a dramatic dip in receiving production for Montgomery. Additionally, Damien Williams was added to this backfield to take the Cordarrelle Patterson role, which will take some carries away too. Montgomery is still going to provide fantasy managers with a very safe floor week after week, but we need to temper our expectations for the young RB heading into this season. Fantasy players that draft Montgomery thinking that they're going to get 2020 production are most likely going to be disappointed. It's safe to view Montgomery as a mid-range RB2. My Very Early Projection: 249-1058-8 rushing & 31-238-1 receiving.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Montgomery had 237.8 fantasy points last year, but that was fueled by the final five games coming against teams that were in the Bottom-7 against fantasy running backs. I like Montgomery to be a solid running back in 2021, but I view him as more of a RB2 than an RB1.Mostert has to show me he can handle more than 150 carries in a season before I am willing to go all-in on him. He is a very talented player, but durability and usage make him more of a flex option than an elite fantasy player.
