Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
Have we seen Edmonds carry the workload for the Cardinals before? Well, kind of. Despite Kenyan Drake struggling through much of 2020, there were just two games where Edmonds finished with more than eight carries, which is certainly a concern. The Cardinals went out and signed James Conner in free agency, but he's proven to be incapable of staying healthy with a full workload, and it wasn't a pricey contract, so maybe we see Edmonds in a bigger role. Whatever the case, we know he has the pass-catching role locked down, which has value in itself, as he was a flex-type option most weeks (he was an RB3 or better 62.5 percent of the time). This offense is going to score points, so if Edmonds were to get a slight bump in carries, he could make his way into the RB2 conversation. Draft him as an RB3/flex and hope that's the case. Just know that he's still yet to crack 100 carries in a season. While Robinson was on the field last year, the Jaguars running backs combined for 332 touches. Robinson accounted for 289 of them, or 87.0 percent, a number that doesn't really exist in today's NFL. He averaged 4.46 yards per carry, 5.73 yards per target, and scored 10 total touchdowns, which is solid, though nothing special. Enter Urban Meyer, who said they wanted to add depth/competition at the running back position. After adding Carlos Hyde, you knew Robinson would lose some touches, but it wasn't that much of a concern. After drafting Travis Etienne in the first round, it's definitely a concern. Robinson would be lucky to earn a 50/40/10 split with Etienne and Hyde, with Robinson being the 40 of the group. If we knock Robinson's touches into the 10-12 per game territory, you're not going to be trusting him as anything more than a shaky flex option.
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
Edmonds was receiving some hype earlier this off-season that he could be in line for a huge workload. I never bought into that thinking at all and it didn't shock me to see the Cardinals add Conner to this backfield. Edmonds will have his set role, which will have him seeing 10-12 touches per game, but he's never going to step into this massive workload that would push him into top-24 consideration for fantasy football. He's a fine RB3 for your roster that receives a bump in Full PPR formats, but we should temper our expectations for the dynamic RB in 2021.Fantasy managers are in a bit of quandary when it comes to what to do with James Robinson. He smashed every expectation set for him last season and was a huge reason why many fantasy players were in their championships. However, the Jaguars turned over the entire front office and coaching staff that brought Robinson in. Additionally, the new coaching staff selected an explosive rookie in the first round, which doesn't look good for the second-year RB. With that being said, Robinson is not going to be completely relegated to the bench now. Etienne's role for this offense is going to be flexible, which means that we could see a lot of 2RB sets from this offense this season. It's just that Etienne is simply going to be receiving the clear majority of the touches in this case. Robinson still has value as a depth piece RB for your roster, but he most likely can't be relied on as anything more than a FLEX play week in and week out. My Very Early Projection: 102-469-4 rushing & 51-379-2 receiving.
Kevin Wheeler
The Draft Zone
Edmonds is being perceived as the RB1 in Arizona, but we should be a bit concerned about how he'll be used. He had 52 receptions last year, but his Vegas O/U is 45.5 receptions WITH OUT Kenyan Drake there. He's only had one goal line carry in 3 seasons and he's never hit 100 carries in a season.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Edmonds is currently the lead back in Arizona, but he will spit carries with James Conner. Edmonds is an upside flex option in a very good offense.
Mark Ringo
Sleepers and Busts
James Conner was signed in free agency, but the good news for Edmonds is the Cardinals didn't address RB in the draft. Conner has had injury issues in the past. He seems too slow for Kliff Kingbury's high octane offense. If Conner goes down, all of a sudden Edmonds is in line for a big workload. Kyler Murray will steal some TDS, but he also opens up running lanes on the read option. Edmonds could be a sneaky pick on draft day.James Robinson came out of nowhere and took over the Jaguars starting RB gig. He's got some new teammates who could affect his numbers in 2021. RB Travis Etienne was drafted in the 1st round. He's more of a change of pace back, but Etienne has some serious juice. Also new is Etienne's Clemson teammate, QB Trevor Lawrence. Lawrence is one of the most heralded QB prospects to come out since Andrew Luck. Finally, Tim Tebow joins the club as a TE. The reason I bring up Lawrence and Tebow is both could vulture TDs from Robinson down near the goal line. Tebow in particular could run a wildcat offense. That would kill Robinson's value if he loses those TDs. The pros are the Jaguars offense should finally have some sizzle in it. But that same sizzle could hurt Robinson's TD totals if things don't go his way. It all depends on his price tag on draft day. If you can get Robinson cheap, by all means take a shot. Just don't overpay. There are some storm clouds on the horizon in Florida.
Joe Pisapia
FantasyPros
I know Kliff Kingsbury went on record as saying Chase Edmonds was a starting back in the NFL. Don't confuse starting with workhorse. They are not the same thing. James Connor was brought in to share the workload and barring an injury to one, this seems like a backfield that is destined to frustrate fantasy owners, even if you roster both. Edmonds as RB depth is ok, but I'd prefer a WR in my flex spot over Edmonds.
Wolf of Roto Street
Roto Street Journal
Drake left, Edmonds drew featured back endorsements from Kingsbury... and then James Conner joined. Now Rondale Moore could threaten receiving snaps. Conner has a nose for the end zone, can catch, and could play a ~200ish touch role. A big name rookie would've been more damning, but this isn't great, either, and I can't see Edmonds being more than a mediocre-at-best flex except for the games Conner is hurt.Hyde isn't the worst addition, but the risk of a true GL vulture now lingers, and Hyde has history w/ Urban.
