Hail to Fantasy Football
Tough to rank after landing in Tampa, but he's just inside my top-30.
Jacob Wayne
Lineups
Few players elicit the oohs and aahs in a draft room when their name gets called quite like CEH. He's arguably the sexiest pick in fantasy drafts right now as the de facto workhorse in an Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes offense. After Damien Williams opted out of the season, the Chiefs have not looked to add any proven veteran talent. It's clear this is Clyde's role to lose and with his talent in this opportunity, he's going to be a fantasy superstar. The Tampa Bay backfield is probably the most confusing in the NFL at the moment. The surprise signing of Fournette has made an already confusing situation even more cloudy as there are four players who could conceivably see a significant number of carries this season. I'm not sure if Fournette will adapt to the team's offense and Tom Brady's playing style in time to make a real impact this season, but he still has intriguing upside as a former first-round pick. I think he's a bit overrated at this point and I wouldn't reach for him just based on his name alone.
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
CEH has insane upside in Kansas City's system, but the infatuation is a little out of control. I'll drop him slightly in my rankings, as I much prefer to land him in round two than round one.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Edwards-Helaire was probably set to be overvalued in fantasy drafts, but now that Damien Williams has opted out, he immediately vaults into reliable RB1 territory. The Chiefs spent their first-round pick on Edwards-Helaire and, regardless, pretty much any replacement value running back can find fantasy gold in Kansas City's system. There are still other running backs on the roster who will garner touches, including Darrel Williams and Darwin Thompson, and because the Chiefs' offense is so dynamic, there is no reason for them to run their rookie back into the ground. Still, without Damien Williams, Edwards-Helaire should get the majority of the touches in the backfield, and that puts him in firm RB1 territory, full stop.Fournette signed with the Bucs after being released by the Jaguars. His contract ($2 million base, incentives based on playing time and rushing yards) suggests that he is expecting to see significant work. Still, given that he signed with the team a little more than a week before the season begins, it's going to take him time to get acclimated to the offense. Fournette can be considered a Flex play, but don't expect him to contribute immediately and, even when he does, he won't be a workhorse back given the presence of Ronald Jones.
Draft Engine
Draft Engine
Edwards-Helaire runs with the kind of balance that allows him to bounce off tacklers, and he has the twitch and quickness to pick up a chunk of yardage after he's broken a tackle. He should be able to excel as a rookie in Kansas City's high-powered offense.Tampa was an ideal landing place for Fournette: There's very little talent to compete with for snaps, and the Bucs' potent passing attack gives him a high TD ceiling. Still, Fournette has done very little as a pro to warrant more than a part-time committee role.
John Hesterman
Dynasty League Football
Fournette lands in a favorable spot and should receive a steady workload with Brady and crew.
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
With the news that Damien Williams has opted out for the 2020 NFL season, CEH immediately shoots up into the top-10 at the RB position. While he's not going to be a "workhorse" back and see 250 carries, he's going to be heavily involved in the receiving game. I'm projecting him to have a similar workload to what Alvin Kamara has seen over the past few seasons and we know how that can translate to top-tier fantasy production in a dynamic offense. CEH can be drafted confidently in the same tier as Joe Mixon, Derrick Henry, Kenyan Drake, and Josh Jacobs.Fournette is now a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and joins what should be a prolific offense this season. While it's going to be near impossible for him to take over this starting job in 10 days, Fournette should receive some light work throughout the first few weeks of the season. However, after a few weeks, I'm projecting Fournette to take over the majority of the work in this backfield. It should still be somewhat of a committee approach with Ronald Jones, but Fournette will have some low-end RB2 value on a weekly basis. There is a small percentage chance that Fournette eventually takes over this job completely and sends Jones to the bench, but you shouldn't let that possibility affect your drafting judgement. The most likely scenario is that he's going to split time with Jones in this backfield and we should draft him accordingly.
Elliot Berkovits
Packer Report
I was excited about Edwards-Helaire before Williams opted out, now, I'm all in. He's about to enter the best offense in football which will give him scoring opportunities on a weekly basis. Dating back to 1999, there have been five RB's coached by Andy Reid who finished inside the top-10 in their first year with him. Could Edwards-Helaire make it six? I think so.Now a member of the Buccaneers, Fournette's volume is bound to decrease from his usual workhorse role on the Jaguars. It's not all bad though considering he is joining what looks to be one of the best offenses in football. There will definitely be a timeshare between himself and Ronald Jones but I expect Fournette to be on the winning side of that split. I like him a lot more as a flex option than an RB2.
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
I absolutely love Clyde Edwards-Helaire as a talent. He was sensational for LSU last year and just quietly, amazing for my college fantasy team. I was very low on him at his price until the Damien Williams hold out. He now jumps into the first round discussions for me as I don't believe Darwin Thompson and DeAndre Washington have enough to keep him off the field for more than a rest. It is very possible the Chiefs bring in a veteran and that stops me from ranking him among the elite, but he is certainly in that second tier of guys and has massive upside.Leonard Fournette has shockingly been dropped from the Jaguars just weeks from the start of the season. It will be very difficult for him to provide meaningful value when turning up on an offense with so little time to learn it and the Buccs is an awful landing spot for all involved. With five relevant backs, Tampa Bay is a backfield worth avoiding as Fournette is unlikely to provide any reliable value. He shouldn't be dropped outside of shallow leagues but he is a fade in drafts.

I had Edwards-Helaire as my top running back in this year's class due to the way he fits the NFL today. He's a true three-down back who can catch 80-plus passes out of the backfield, while running for 1,000-plus yards. Landing with the Chiefs was a dream scenario, especially in the first round. Over the last seven years, running backs who've been drafted in the first round have averaged 280.7 touches in year one. 75 percent of them have finished as an RB2 or better. Don't think this is Darwin Thompson all over again, as he was a sixth-round pick last year, and those average just 29.8 touches in year one. This is Edwards-Helaire's backfield after Andy Reid said he's better than Brian Westbrook on film. You don't take those players off the field very often. He's worth a second-round pick and would be a steal in the third round. The Jaguars decided to release Fournette just 10 days prior to the NFL season. Whew. The Bucs are the team who signed him, making their backfield a bit cloudier, which is problematic, because it was already cloudy. It's possible that we see Fournette share time with Ronald Jones the same way we saw with Peyton Barber. I do believe that Fournette is the most talented back on the roster, but I also felt like Jones was last year. What a mess. I wouldn't want to rely on anything more than RB3 production right out of the gate. There's top-12 upside here for sure, but it could just be a messy timeshare.

107 RB targets spread out to the Chiefs RB position last year. Due to injury, and coaching decisions, no RB played more than 35% of the snaps. If CEH can consolidate the targets and take charge on the backfield(like they seemingly drafted him to do), he might just be awesome. If you thought he might've been a product of the LSU offense, feel free to rely on that excuse in KC as well, should work just fine. Updated thoughts: DAMIEN WILLIAMS, the man who struggled to take over LeSean McCoy, still averaged a 63.5% snap share in 13 games(missed majority of week 11 with injury), still averaged 15.13 fantasy points in those 13 games, a pace of RB7. But now some are worried that the man drafted in the first round doesn't have the ability, or is too risky to be taken as an RB1? Dam paced for it and he couldn't even beat out McCoy while doing so, and now neither are on the team.Oof. No matter what you think of Fournette, touching the ball 341 times, and only getting 3TDs is not sustainable, in a good way. I don't have a problem thinking Chris Thompson or Laviska take away a significant amount of targets, I just need the TDs to normalize to get ROI.

Above average rusher, dynamite pass catcher. The Chiefs made an investment that raised eyebrows, but Damien Williams opting out should make your heart skip a beat. Darkhorse candidate to finish as a top 2 RB.A polarizing pick this season, his passing volume should decrease but his TD volume is bound to increase. Jacksonville won't be a top offense, so there's risk here.

The Twitter anointed, chosen one, the almighty, the hall of fame back who hasn't played a down yet. Is this guy going to deliver? Most certainly, but don't expect Barry Sanders 2.0Wow has Leonard Fournette been thrown under the fantasy bus lately. Sure the Jags are bad but he can produce for your squad. Some QB stability will go a long way too this season

Top draft pick by the Chiefs. Very good receiver for a RB who should fit perfectly into the Chiefs system. Andy Reid has had an RB1 in over 75% of his coaching seasons. Was a true workhorse last year with 100 targets and 265 rush attempts. Concerns with new offensive weapons and scheme that may limit Fournette's receiving production. Also issues with team fit as they tried trading him this offseason and may not utilize him as a workhorse.

With Damien Williams opting out, CEH finds himself as THE guy in an Andy Reid system with Pat Mahomes at QB. *Insert drooling dog pic here* CEH is well worth the gamble in the back end of the first round. Huge upside.

CEH is the bellcow RB for an offense that has very strong potential to lead the league in scoring. In the 29 games Mahomes has started, the RBs in those games have scored 39 touchdowns which is about 1.35 TDs per game. If CEH gets just HALF of that TD volume, that's still ~11 TDs in 16 games, which would've put him 7th in TDs last year. Remember, when Kareem Hunt was the bellcow in 2018, he was the RB6 in half-ppr FP/g and the RB8 in ppr FP/g. The upside is too large to put him below guys like Mixon, Jones, Sanders, Jacobs, and Chubb.

With D. Williams opting out, CEH's workload concerns fade considerably, but he's more likely to be great because of Ekeler-like efficiency than substantial volumeBiggest concern is not whether he'll see positive TD regression or take a major receptions hit with C. Thompson around, it's if JAX remains committed to him if/when losses pile up

Now that Damien Williams has opted to sit out the 2020 season, Edwards-Helaire should be the unquestioned lead running back on one of the best offenses in the NFL. He is a RB1 with upside.

365 touches last season and only 57 evaded tackles. 90th in fantasy points per opportunity. Jay Gruden brought in his guy Chris Thompson to catch passes out of the backfield.

The Kansas City Chiefs have averaged the following over the last 3 seasons: 282 rush attempts, 99 RB receptions, 4.43 rush yards per attempt, 7.4 RB yards per reception, 11.6 rushing touchdowns, 8.3 RB receiving tds Let's say, CEH only gets 60% of workload, going only on averages, he would finish with: 169 rush attempts, 60 receptions, 7 rush td, 5 rec td, 750 rush yards, 440 receiving yards He would finish with 251 PPR points. This would have had him ranked 9th last season ahead of Alvin Kamara, Saquon Barkley, Joe Mixon, Mark Ingram, and others. @BlakeAHamptonLeonard Fournette only scored three rushing touchdowns in 2019, but they accounted for every rushing score for the Jaguars. Those three rushing touchdowns were the lowest from a team since the 2005 Cardinals. Only 13 other teams in NFL history finished with that low of a total. (@LateRoundQB) I don't completely expect Fournette to stay as healthy as he did last year, but we should see some TD regression in 2020. In 2019 he set career highs in: games played: 15, rush yards: 1152, rushing 1st downs: 52, yards per att: 4.3, targets: 100, receptions: 76, receiving yards: 522, total touches: 341, total yards: 1674... for 6-10 team (@DFFMemphis)

Could not have scripted a more perfect landing spot. Immediate Top-3 upside given the Talent + Fit + Usage + Surrounding Offense. Helaire is going to eat.Despite constant trade rumors, Fournette returns as the lone viable backfield option. Don't love his fit in Jay Gruden's pass-centric attack, but just some slight positive TD regression is likely.
