With C.J. Anderson gone, you may expect Freeman to jump right in and touch the ball 250 times, but that may not be the case. Apparently Booker is the starter, so until they hand the job to Freeman, keep your expectations reasonable. Still yet, if Freeman wins the job all for himself, he could be among the top handful of running backs in football.Ingram is set to miss 4 games due to suspension, but he was rock solid last year and is expected to maintain the same role upon his re-entry. From the moment he comes back, you are getting an easy RB1, so if you believe you can muster a win or two without your fifth round pick over the first month then don't hesitate to get Ingram on your roster at that point.
Andrew Gould
FantasyPros
With C.J. Anderson's 245 carries out the door, the Broncos brought in the 229-pound Freeman to assume the early-down bell-cow role. He'll only need to fend off Devontae Booker, who averaged 3.6 YPC over the past two years. Although initially available as a flex pick, the neophyte's stock has skyrocketed amid a strong preseason.Don't forget about Ingram after the first few rounds. He stockpiled 190.5 fantasy points in 12 games after New Orleans dealt Adrian Peterson--a mark eclipsed during the whole season by just seven other rushers--so he should make plenty of noise upon returning from a four-game suspension. Two postseason duds and eight of his dozen scores occurring inside the five cast some doubt over a full-fledged repeat, but anyone comfortable in finding a September seat-holder can snag 12 games of a low-end RB1 at a low-end RB2 or flex price.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
There are some who are worried about Devontae Booker, but in the long run, you shouldn't be one of them. He legitimately played behind the running back they just cut (C.J. Anderson), and they felt the need to spend a third-round pick on Freeman this year. This doesn't scream confidence. Freeman may not be elite at anything, but he's really good at everything. He's a no-nonsense runner who knows how to follow his blocks, similar to Jordan Howard. In an offense that likely takes a step forward, Freeman should finish as a top-24 running back in his first season. His touchdown runs in the preseason looked mightily similar to the many touchdown runs at Oregon. Most of us expected common sense to prevail after a strong preseason, but it appears that Vance Joseph is going with Booker to start in Week 1, which lowers our confidence in the entire coaching staff. Freeman will take over the job, it's just a matter of when. He's suspended for the first four games of the season, sure, but getting him for 12 games will be more valuable than someone like Derrick Henry, who will be touchdown-reliant in all 16 games. It's clear that the Saints don't want to shift more of the early-down work to Alvin Kamara, as Sean Payton said they don't want to change his workload much, even during the first four weeks while Ingram is out. Ingram is also due for some positive regression in the touchdown department, as he caught 58 passes last year without a single touchdown. The league average among running backs is one every 25.6 receptions. Even with his suspension, Ingram is worthy of a top-20 running back selection.

As bad as DEN was in '17, the run blocking was actually pretty good. Freeman should have no problem rising to the top of the backfield depth chart (Devontae Booker? Please!) and gaining a healthy featured role in an offense that should be considerably more potent with QB KeenumIf he missed four games last season, he'd still have finished No. 13 at RB for the season, and in '15 he was No. 13 despite actually missing four games - even if you factor in some regression because the overall NO backfield production was insane, you can make a fair case for ranking him back-end top 20 at RB
Derek Lofland
Fantasy Football Maniax
Freeman has looked very solid early in preseason and I think he emerges as the lead back in Denver this year. Ingram averaged 14.1 fantasy points per game this year. I think Ingram will lose touches to Kamara next year and he is suspended for the first four games. He probably will have only flex value for the season and RB2 value once he starts playing in Week 5.
Staff Rankings
QB List
How you rank Royce Freeman depends on your opinion of whether he gets the starting gig over Devontae Booker, and I think he will. Maybe Booker starts Week 1, but I think Freeman takes the job pretty quickly. Booker has been fine if unimpressive, losing his job a few times already in his NFL career. Freeman is talented, and he was an absolute workhorse for Oregon last season-I could see him doing more of the same in Denver behind a decent offensive line and in an offense helmed by surprise star quarterback Case Keenum. I think Keenum will help this Broncos passing game, which should open things up more for Freeman. That being said, if Freeman doesn't get the gig and the Broncos, for whatever reason, commit entirely to Booker, then Freeman will drop significantly in the rankings.Even with the Saints using Alvin Kamara as much as they did last year, Ingram was still able to manage 1,124 yards and 12 touchdowns, including seven top-10 finishes last year (one of them as number one). Unfortunately, he's got two things working against him this year-first, there's the likelihood that he's going to lose work to Kamara after his explosive season last year, and second, he's suspended for the first four games of the year. He should still have value once he returns from his suspension given the high-octane offense the Saints have and how good their offensive line is, but he's not the high-end RB2 he used to be.
Chet Gresham
WalterFootball
Freeman gets a strong defense to keep games close and a weak backfield to compete for touches against. Sign me up.Ingram will miss the first four games of the season. He should be able to return after that and put up similar numbers to last season, but if someone like Jonathan Williams comes in and plays well in his stead, it could hurt his touches afterward.
Jody Smith
FantasyPros
I don't buy the Devontae Booker hype at all. Freeman flashed terrific three-down skills and took a heavy workload at Oregon. He's a solid RB2 target for teams that attack the WR position early. Ingram is a proven producer and a potential championship-winning addition if his owners can survive not having him for five out of the first six weeks of the season.
Kevin Wheeler
NFL Mock
Each season from 2012-16, two Broncos running backs had at least 100 carries. Coach Vance Joseph wants a return to that divided workload. "We want two or three guys to be our main core backs," Joseph said during minicamp last month. Freeman is the most likely challenger to supplant Booker, or at the very least, be the top reserve. He scored 60 rushing touchdowns at Oregon and caught 79 passes so he is not totally foreign to playing an all-around game. denverpost.com 4 game suspension
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
Devontae Booker has not taken over in Denver so I'm worried he never will. Freeman is a way better value in drafts and I like his talent, so I'm ranking him higherIngram will miss a handful of games due to a suspension, so his season long value takes a big hit. He's still a solid pick and can return RB1 value in any given week.

Solid RB2 with weekly RB1 upside as the Broncos workhorsePED ban on top of contract year will result in a much larger reduction in role than originally anticipated
