FantasyPros
During his rookie season, while playing behind a shoddy offensive line and in a low-scoring offense, Barkley overcame all odds and delivered a fantasy MVP-worthy performance. He finished as an RB1 in 75 percent of his games, while hitting at least RB2 numbers in 93.8 percent of his games. Some are excited about his target possibilities with Odell Beckham Jr. gone, but it's likely going to bring more attention to him and the run-game. Still, Barkley showed last year that he's able to overcome a lot, making him a relatively safe top-three selection in every format, but the lack of scoring from this offense can hold him back. Some are worried about Chubb due to the signing of Kareem Hunt this offseason, but you shouldn't be one of them. Hunt has an eight-game suspension that will allow Chubb to run with the job as he did down the stretch last year. The Browns invested a high second-round pick on Chubb and he's done nothing but impress. He's the starter and an RB1 in fantasy
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
Phenomenally versatile game-breaker (21 combined runs/receptions of 20+ yards most at RB), but team context could hurt him a bit (e.g. loss of OBJ, potential QB shuffle)Will any Chubb owner feel peace come Week 10 when K. Hunt is sitting on the sidelines for CLE? Not that Chubb will lose his lead role, but curbing his workload down the stretch to preserve him for a possible playoff run has logic to it
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
Barkley was in an unenviable position as a rookie and was still fantasy's top RB. He's probably the most talented rusher in the league already. Yeah, he's the top option.Chubb might be the most underrated stud rusher in all of football. Until Kareem Hunt shows up - and perhaps even after - he's going to wow us. Somehow, we can get him at a slight discount despite his mouth-watering upside.
Kevin Wheeler
Draftwize
Last season, Saquon Barkley totaled 641 yards on 16 carries of 20-plus yards. Those numbers rank third- and fifth-most, respectively, across the PFF era (2007-2018). On average, running backs who totaled 400-plus yards on carries that gained 20-plus yards saw that number drop by 56% in the following season. Excluding carries of 20-plus yards, Barkley averaged just 2.72 yards per carry - worst of 256 qualifying seasons within the PFF era. @ScottBarrettDFBFrom Week 8 on last year, Nick Chubb averaged nearly 17 PPR Points per game, making him the RB6 during that time. The Browns should be near the goaline often and Chubb is the guy to punch them in. With Duke gone Chubb is looking at being a true bell-cow for the first eight games, and regardless of Hunt entering the picture he will have the bulk of the workload in his favor through the remainder of the season.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
There is zero to dislike about Barkley as a player, as he was second in the league last year with 1,307 rushing yards and caught 91 passes, second in running backs to only Christian McCaffrey. But his production waned somewhat without Odell Beckham Jr., and with all the issues with the Giants' wide receivers, defenses will surely be focused on not letting Barkley beat them. But those are all minimal concerns when you consider Barkley's talent and likely usage. He's one of the top few picks in your draft, if not the first selection.Chubb essentially averaged 20 touches and 100 yards per game once he took over as the starting running back last year, and there's little reason to expect a dip in his performance, at least for the first half of the season. With Duke Johnson now in Texas, Chubb should dominate the running back touches early on, and with Odell Beckham Jr. on board, defenses will need to focus on stopping the pass more. The issue becomes what happens to Chubb in the second half once Kareem Hunt returns from suspension. But for now, that's a lifetime away. Draft Chubb with confidence as an RB1.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Barkley was 2nd in fantasy points by running backs in his rookie season and he should continue to his ascent towards becoming the best running back in the NFL.I loved how Chubb closed the season and he should be in the RB1 discussion in 2019. RB Kareem Hunt would be a necessary handcuff for Chubb if Chubb were to go down with injury, but Hunt is suspended the first eight games of the season.
Greg Smith
TwoQBs
My overall rankings are for 2QB/Superflex.
Michael Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
1307/11 rushing and 91/721/4 receiving AS A ROOKIE! He is going to get the ball 20+ times a game, easily. He was also ridiculously consistent. Had 2 games under 15.5 half ppr points all of last season which is absurd.Nick Chubb was an absolute animal his rookie season. He was the #1 ranked RB on PFF and had the highest elusive rating in the league. He is on a great offense, and with Duke gone, should have a larger role in the passing game.
Jason Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Barkley had ONE game all of last season with less than 50 rushing yards, less than 5 catches, and no TDs. He's one big run away from being the overall RB1 every week.He was a top ranked runner, according to PFF, in multiple different metrics. Most notably, he was the #2 overall RB. The only gripe against Chubb was that he didn't catch passes, but that can certainly change. Duke Johnson is out of Cleveland (not that he was really gonna have a role), Mayfield checked down to RBs almost his entire first preseason drive (grain of salt), and he did have at least 3 catches in four of his last 7 games. Kareem Hunt is also not a concern to me as, after his suspension and the bye, he won't be back until week 10. By then, Chubb will have impressed enough to maintain his role.
Nick Zylak
Fantasy Football Advice
Barkley is an absolute freak. He has a 96th percentile bench press, a 97th percentile burst score, a 99th percentile height adjusted speed score, a 99th percentile SPARQ-x score, and is one of the best receiving backs in the league. He can take any play to the house, and can save even his poor fantasy performances with his receiving upside. He ran for over 1,300 yards and 15 total TD's last season, averaging 5.0 YPC on one of the worst offenses in football. Oh, and he also caught 91 balls. There are two big concerns with Barkley The first is that his YPC is likely to regress this season. He had 16 carries for 641 yards on runs of 20+ yards. While this is one of his strengths, you can't expect him to rush for that many yards on long runs each season. The second concern is his offense. This is going to be one of the worst offenses in the league, and it's very difficult for a RB to pay off top overall value when the offense around them is so bad. I'm ok drafting Barkley...but he usually goes first overall, which means I'll have 0% of him.Let others make the mistake of passing on Chubb. He was PFF's #2 rated RB last season, ranked first in elusiveness rating, and is on what should be an elite scoring offense this season. Chubb averaged 16.6 half ppr points per game over the final 8 weeks last season, as he displayed his TD upside with 7 TD's over that span. 18 TD's is well within his range of outcomes this season as he's the clear goal line option. Nick Chubb is already one of the best RB's in the league, and there's no way teams will be able to stack the box against him. Kareem Hunt is a good RB, but I have no concern drafting Chubb. You're going to get top 5 overall production over the first 8 weeks of the season, and while he'll see less workload when Hunt returns, he'll still be an elite option in the offense. I wouldn't hesitate for even a second in drafting Chubb this season
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
Barkley is the consensus 1.1 pick for a reason; he is the most talented running back to enter the league since Adrian Peterson and perhaps even Barry Sanders. With that said, he plays behind one of the league's worst offensive lines and teams may stack the box more often with Beckham now in Cleveland. Still yet, Saquon dominated last year despite the rest of the offense struggling, plus he is game script proof. While Carlos Hyde was the lead back in Cleveland, they made him a workhorse then Chubb took over and saw 18.6 carries per game over the next 9 contests. It seems clear that he will be a 20 touch per game weapon for fantasy owners this year and should find his way into the end zone more often in what will be a much improved offense.
Kyle Yates
The Fantasy Footballers
Saquon's a transcendent talent at the running back position. He's in an incredible position this season to exceed 2,000 total yards again and that New York Giants offense is going to run through him. He should be the 1.01 in every draft this season.
