Per Green Bay Packers beat writer for The Athletic, Matt Schneidman, tight end Robert Tonyan's availability to start the season remains uncertain. (Matt Schneidman of The Athletic via Twittter)

Fantasy Impact:

At this point, it seems that it’s a possibility Tonyan could start the 2022 season on the physically unable to perform list. The tight end has spent the entire offseason rehabbing since tearing an anterior cruciate ligament in late October last season. Before the season-ending injury, Tonyan had 18 catches for 204 yards and two touchdowns after a breakout season in 2020 where he caught 52 passes for 586 yards and 11 touchdowns. In the final nine games without Tonyan, Packers tight ends combined for only 41 catches for 392 receiving yards and just two touchdowns. With offseason departures Davante Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling the Packers are looking to rely on Tonyan heavily to fill a large void in their passing attack. Tonyan currently goes as the 16th tight end off the board and he's a sure-handed vertical threat that could offer fantasy managers some upside if, in fact, he's able to suit up, making him well worth his current ADP. If Tonyan does end up on the PUP to begin the season, Josiah Deguara is pegged to be the next man up at tight end for Green Bay. Deguara finished 2021 with 25 receptions on 33 targets, 245 yards, and two touchdowns.
