Devin Smith to begin camp and possibly the season on the PUP list

ESPN's Rich Cimini expects New York Jets WR Devin Smith (knee) to begin training camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list as he is still recovering from a "major" surgical procedure on his knee. The beat writer believes that Smith is an "important piece of the puzzle" in 2016 because he "brings much-needed home-run potential to the passing game." (ESPN)

Devin Smith is entering his second season in the NFL and could see an increase in playing time when he returns from injury. Smith is expected to begin the season on the PUP list but the Jets have high expectations for him upon his return due to his "home-run potential in the passing game." Although Smith will likely be the fourth or fifth receiver on the depth chart in 2016, he can work his way up if he can showcase his talents during the limited playing time he will see to start the year.
