Brice Butler to see increase in playing time with Dez Bryant sidelined

ESPN's Todd Archer believes that the Dallas Cowboys will "will turn to" WR Brice Butler if WR Dez Bryant (knee) is unable to play in Week 4. The young wideout appears "better-prepared" and "more confident" entering his increased role in 2016 compared to last season, when he was thrust into the job after being acquired from the Oakland Raiders. “Totally different ballgame. Like, the confidence is high,” Butler said via ESPN. “Last year when I got put in, it was like I didn’t know the whole offense. ... It was really hard for me to pick up in the middle of the season. No Day 1 install, none of this. It was all game plan.” (ESPN)

Fantasy Impact:

Butler had prepared throughout the offseason to eventually start at the No. 2 wide receiver position on the outside opposite Dez Bryant, in the likely case that Terance Williams departs from the Cowboys in the 2017 offseason when he becomes a free agent. Butler's full offseason of work with the Cowboys could be tested early as he could garner the start in Week 4 against the San Francisco 49ers with Bryant's game status up in the air as he is dealing with a hairline fracture in his knee that could linger into a three-week absence. If Bryant does not play, Butler should be considered a boom or bust low-end WR4 in a favorable matchup with the 49ers this week who's upside is decently high if he develops a rapport with Dak Prescott during practice.
