Jacob Wayne Lineups | After Todd Gurley and Brandin Cooks departed this offseason, Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp were let as the only proven skill position players on the roster. The Cowboys' passing defense should be worse this year after losing Byon Jones in free agency and this game could be a high-scoring shootout between two great offenses. Woods is a WR2 with an incredible baseline who could drift into WR1 territory this week. | While the Jets' run defense was very solid last year, their passing defense was subpar as they allowed the 10th-most fantasy points to wide receivers last year. However, as talented as Diggs is, he's entering an offense that was in the bottom third of passing attempts last season. Diggs could certainly score a touchdown in this game, but with one of the lowest combined points totals on the week, he should be viewed as more of a WR2 than a WR1 this week. |
Mike Tagliere FantasyPros | There are a lot of questions about the running back and tight end positions, and even some with Cooper Kupp, but there's no question about Woods' involvement in the Rams offense. He's now played 43 games under Sean McVay and has seen at least seven targets in 33 of them. He saw a ridiculous 79 targets over the final seven games in 2019, too. The Cowboys lost their best cornerback Byron Jones this offseason and have a new defensive coordinator, so it's not wise to look at Woods' lack of a stat line last year against the Cowboys as proof he'll struggle. He caught just 4-of-9 targets for 17 scoreless yards in their meeting last year. The new coordinator for the Cowboys is Mike Nolan, and the last three years he was a defensive coordinator, his units finished 32nd, 27th, and 24th in total yards allowed. Start Woods as a WR2 this week who should fare much better this time around. | The reports have been good on the chemistry between Diggs and Josh Allen, but when training camp comes around, almost all reports are. The connection they need is the deep ball, as Diggs led the league in deep ball yards last year (635 of his 1.130 yards came on passes that traveled over 20 yards), and all six of his touchdowns were on such passes. So, when you see that Allen completed just 18-of-68 passes that traveled over 20 yards, we have an issue. Fortunately, Allen should have a lot of separation this week, as Diggs can dominate any of Pierre Desir, Blessuan Austin, or Brian Poole. Not only has Desir been a hit-or-miss cornerback, but he's also dealt with a hamstring injury throughout training camp. Poole is ideally a slot cornerback, while Austin is a depth chart cornerback, at best. It's going to be harder for Diggs to have the explosion-type weeks he did with Kirk Cousins, as Allen never threw for more than 266 yards last year and had just four games with more than 34 pass attempts. My guess is that Diggs is a slightly better version of 2019 John Brown, who posted at least 9.2 half PPR points in 13-of-16 games but topped 13.4 points just three times. The matchup is good, so start Diggs as a high-floor WR3 with upside for more. |
Isaiah Sirois FantasyPros | John Brown roasted the Jets for 123 yards and a score last year. But wait a minute, isn't this Stefon Diggs' player note? Yes, but I expect Diggs to get a lot of the looks that Brown earned last year. He has a similar speed-based skill set, and Josh Allen is a deep-ball specialist. With the Jets' secondary forced to play without Jamal Adams, look for Diggs to break off one or two long receptions to earn himself a high-end WR2 result.
Kyle Yates FantasyPros | Dallas was a tough matchup for WRs last year, but Byron Jones is no longer in a Cowboys uniform. Chidobe Awuzie and Trevon Diggs are going to be tasked with slowing down this Rams passing attack and Woods has the advantage in this situation. This game could easily get out of control and points could be flying up on the board. Woods is a must-start option this week and is a solid WR2 with upside.
Derek Lofland FantasyPros | Woods is more of a WR3 this week, he was horrible against Dallas last year with 9 targets, 4 receptions, 17 yards, and no touchdowns. Dallas is running a new defensive scheme, but the poor showing last year is cause for concern. | The Jets were 23rd against fantasy wide receivers with Jamal Adams last year. The Jets have a new look defense without him and Diggs has the chance to open with a big game for his new team. |
Kevin Wheeler The Draft Zone | I expect Diggs to come out firing against this Jets secondary. |
