I’m completely smitten with a stack tonight, and it’s not one found at Coors Field. I’m also in the mood to swerve off of Clayton Kershaw. As a result of those factors, today’s lineup will be of the GPP variety. If you’re hell bent on using Kershaw with the stack I’m highlighting below — or a slightly tweaked version of that stack in order to fit a very special big-ticket item in the outfield — that’s fine, but I won’t be including any honorable mentions at pitcher. I also won’t be including any honorable mentions at the positions featuring a player from the stack. If you’re entering multiple lineups, you can pivot off of a stack member to a high-upside alternative. The idea behind this particular lineup, however, is that you’re banking on the full stack delivering the goods collectively.

Pitcher
Danny Duffy (KC): $10,400 @ White Sox
The White Sox have been pretty tough on lefties this year, and their active roster of hitters has been mostly tough on lefties as a whole since 2014 as you can see here, so there is downside to the Duffy pick. The good news is that you’re not concerned with downside in GPPs, and the ceiling is high for Duffy. Pinnacle has the Royals and Duffy serving as -134 favorites in a game with an over/under total of only 7.5 runs. The 28-year-old lefty is following his breakout 2016 with an electric start to this year. In four starts, he’s allowed no more than two earned runs — which he allowed in just one start — and he’s pitched seven or more innings in three straight (he pitched six innings in the season opener). The advanced metrics don’t support his 1.32 ERA, but his 21.2% K% is light for a 15.1% swinging strike percentage (SwStr%). According to FanGraphs, Duffy’s SwStr% is the fifth highest among qualified starters. I suspect the Pale Hose’s success against lefties, a $10,400 salary, the presence of Kershaw on this slate, and a game at Coors Field will all serve to depress Duffy’s ownership rate a great deal. With elite bat-missing stuff, sign me up for the opportunity to use him at low ownership.
