Fantasy Football: Week 3 Injury Updates

Fantasy Football: Week 3 Injury Updates

As last week proved, injuries are a large contributor to the fluidity of fantasy football. All of our plotting and preparation and listening to coach-speak can be thrown out the window with news and unexpected updates on game day like we had with Sam Bradford. Its ripples were felt across the team and the consequences for Bradford’s teammates undoubtedly found their way onto a few of our fantasy rosters. Though this stresses, even more, the importance of articles like this and in having a backup plan for your backup plan in case the injury flares up before crunch time.

Baltimore at Jacksonville (Sunday, 9:30 am ET – Played in London)

Baltimore: The Raven’s injury report lists a few gaps as TE Maxx Williams (ankle) has already been ruled out for the game across the pond. Meanwhile, with WRs Michael Campanaro (ankle) and Chris Matthews (ankle) and RB Terrance West (Calf) all being listed as questionable, there is a chance RB Buck Allen could see increased usage. Obviously West’s status should dictate Allen’s carries, however, the lack of depth at WR could lead to Allen being used more in the passing game as Jacksonville’s secondary should challenge Mike Wallace and Jeremy Maclin.

Jacksonville: Newly acquired WR Jaelen Strong (hamstring) has been ruled out already for this week’s game. Meanwhile, Jalen Ramsey (ankle), who played in last week’s game against the Titans despite being listed as questionable, is still showing on the Jaguar’s injury report with an identical status as last week. Ramsey missed practice on Thursday and was limited on Friday but is expected by most to play through the designation, as he did last week. LT Cam Robinson (shoulder) is also listed as questionable for Week 3.

Denver at Buffalo (Sunday, 1 pm ET)

Denver: LT Garrett Bolles (lower leg) is the biggest name appearing on the Broncos’ injury report for Week 3. Both he and WR Bennie Fowler (concussion) are listed as questionable.

Buffalo: Both the Bills’ offensive line and defensive lines will be without starters for Week 3 as DT Marcell Dareus (ankle) and LT Glenn Cordy (ankle) have already been ruled out according to the Bills’ official injury report. This will make an uphill battle even more difficult as the Broncos dominated the Cowboy’s in the trenches in Week 2.

New Orleans at Carolina (Sunday, 1 pm ET)

New Orleans: The Saints have three key injuries this week that pose significant vulnerability against the Panthers. Both the LT Terron Armstead (shoulder) and the RT Zach Strief (knee) have been ruled out on the Saints’ injury report. Both missed their Week 2 game against the Patriots. Joining them on the sidelines this week is their first-round draft pick, CB Marshon Lattimore (concussion).

Carolina: In Week 2, TE Greg Olsen broke his foot and has since found his way to IR. This is the biggest loss for the Panthers’ offense moving forward. Once again, Cam Newton (right shoulder/ankle) saw himself resting during the week, leading to a designation of questionable on the injury report, however as noted last week, Rivera believes this is “the new normal” and shouldn’t affect his status on Sunday.

Pittsburgh at Chicago (Sunday, 1 pm ET)

Pittsburgh: The Steelers have already ruled out their starting RT Marcus Gilbert (hamstring/illness) and rookie sensation T.J. Watt (groin) for Week 3’s game against the Bears. Also on the injury report is DE Stephon Tuitt (biceps), who is listed as questionable.

Chicago: So often there’s nothing but bad news on the injury report, but the Bears have cause for celebration as their offseason acquisition, WR Markus Wheaton (finger), coming back from injury just in time to play his former team. On the flipside, starting RG Josh Sitton (ribs) is listed as doubtful this week and is not expected to play.

Atlanta at Detroit (Sunday, 1 pm ET)

Atlanta: The Falcons have already announced that OLB Vic Beasley Jr. (hamstring), RT Ryan Schraeder (concussion) and DE Courtney Upshaw (ankle/knee) will all miss this week against the Lions. The absence of Beasley and Upshaw may make it a bit easier for the Lions offensive line to protect Matt Stafford.

Detroit: The Lions will be without LB Jarrad Davis (concussion) and S Tavon Wilson (shoulder) on defense this week. DE Ziggy Ansah (knee) is questionable on the Lions’ injury report and would be a big loss if he is unable to go against the Falcons.

Cleveland at Indianapolis (Sunday, 1 pm ET)

Cleveland: Last week, Cleveland lost WR Corey Coleman to a broken hand for the second straight year. Last year the injury kept him out for six weeks. Rashard Higgins is expected to be the next man up from the Browns WR corp who looks to also be without WR Sammie Coates (hamstring) who is listed as doubtful. The defense hasn’t seen good news from the injury report this year, either, as Myles Garrett (ankle) is still listed as doubtful and LB Jamie Collins (concussion) is out for another game.

Indianapolis: The Colts injury report shows that they will be without QB Andrew Luck (right shoulder) for another week. They will also be without RB Marlon Mack (shoulder), WR Chester Rogers (hamstring), and C Ryan Kelly (foot). The defense will likely be without CB Vontae Davis (groin), leaving their secondary vulnerable. Additionally,  WR Kamar Aiken (hip) and FS Darius Butler (hamstring) are listed as questionable and expected to be game-time decisions.

Tampa Bay at Minnesota (Sunday, 1 pm ET)

Tampa Bay: Tampa Bay will be without starting MLB Kwon Alexander (hamstring) and could potentially be without both starting DTs, Gerald McCoy (questionable – ankle) and Chris Baker (doubtful – illness). These injuries could present an opportunity for Minnesota to run the ball with Dalvin Cook with success. Meanwhile, CB Brent Grimes (shoulder) appears on the injury report and is listed as questionable.

Minnesota: The only player on the Vikings’ injury report this week, QB Sam Bradford (knee), has already been ruled out for the second straight week. Case Keenum will start in his place.

Houston at New England (Sunday, 1 pm ET)

Houston: Houston got some good news on the injury report this week, seeing WR Will Fuller (shoulder) participate in practice for the first time since training camp. However, Fuller is not ready for action and has been ruled out for Week 3 along with CB Kevin Johnson.

New England: The Patriots show a laundry list of players on their official injury report. WR Danny Amendola (concussion/knee), RT Marcus Cannon (ankle/concussion), WR Phillip Dorsett (knee), CB Stephon Gilmore (groin), TE Rob Gronkowski (groin), LB Dont’a Hightower (knee), WR Chris Hogan (knee), CB Eric Rowe (groin), WR Matthew Slater (hamstring) are all listed as questionable for this week, while Rex Burkhead (ribs) has been ruled out. Deciphering the Patriots’ injury report is a one of the more difficult tasks when it comes to fantasy football, however both Gronkowski and Amendola have stated that they expect to play this week.

Miami at New York Jets (Sunday, 1 pm ET)

Miami: The Dolphins have RB Jay Ajayi (knee), WR Jarvis Landry (knee), WR DeVante Parker (ankle) all listed as questionable on the Week 3 injury report. Word around the team is that Ajayi is “good to go” and both Parker and Landry are expected to play. This would be good news for the Dolphins who are expecting their starting C, Mike Pouncey, back from his hip injury.

New York Jets: The Jets will be without TE Eric Tomlinson (elbow) and RG Brian Winters (abdomen) for Week 3. DE Muhammad Wilkerson (shoulder) is questionable for the game, as well.

New York Giants at Philadelphia (Sunday, 1 pm ET)

New York Giants: The only fantasy relevant player to watch on the Giants’ injury report is CB Janoris Jenkins (ankle). Jenkins missed last week’s against the Lions and is arguably the best player on this defense. WR Odell Beckham Jr. has been a full participant in practice and no longer has an injury designation.

Philadelphia: CB Ronald Darby (ankle) has been ruled out for Week 3 and could be joined by starting S Rodney McLeod (hamsting) and WR Torey Smith (illness) who are both listed as questionable on the official injury report.

Seattle at Tennessee (Sunday, 4:05 pm ET)

Seattle: The Seahawks’ injury report shows TE Jimmy Graham (ankle) listed as questionable, however Seattle expects he will play, as he was a full participant in practice on Friday.

Tennessee: The Titans will be without S Johnathan Cyprien and WR Corey Davis for Week 3 as both are recovering from hamstring injuries. RB DeMarco Murray is also battling a hamstring injury and is questionable. If Murray misses time on Sunday, Derrick Henry is expected to get a chance to lead the running game.

Cincinnati at Green Bay (Sunday, 4:25 pm ET)

Cincinnati: The Bengals will be without two weapons on their offense against the Packers this Sunday. TE Tyler Eifert (back) and John Ross (illness) have both been ruled out, according to Cincinnati’s injury report.

Green Bay: The Packers come into Week 3 nursing quite a few injuries. Starting LT David Bakhtiari (hamstring), WR Randall Cobb (chest), DT Mike Daniels (hip), CB Davon House (quad), and LBs Nick Perry (hand) and LB Jake Ryan (hamstring/concussion) have all been listed as doubtful on the team’s injury report. They are hopeful they will see RT Bryan Bulaga (ankle) and WR Jordy Nelson (quad) back in play this week after missing time against the Falcons last week, however, both are officially listed as questionable. With the injuries plaguing Nelson and Cobb this week, Davante Adams should see increased usage and if both are held out. Geronimo Allison could even see significant time.

Kansas City at Los Angeles Chargers (Sunday, 4:25 pm ET)

Kansas City: No fantasy-relevant injury information to note.

Los Angeles Chargers: CB Jason Verrett (knee) and WR Mike Williams (back) will not dress on Sunday as they have already been ruled out. RB Melvin Gordon (knee) was limited in practice on Thursday an Friday and is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game. Anthony Lynn said on Friday, though, that Gordon is expected to suit up.

Oakland at Washington (Sunday, 8:30 pm ET)

Oakland: No fantasy-relevant injury information to note.

Washington: RB Rob Kelley (rib), CB Josh Norman (shoulder), and TE Jordan Reed (rib/sternum) are all listed as questionable. According to coach Jay Gruden, “all will [three] be game-time decisions.” Adam Schefter reported late Saturday night that Kelley is NOT expected to play.

Dallas at Arizona (Monday, 8:30 pm ET)

Dallas: The Cowboys dealt with significant injuries to their secondary last week as both CB Chidobe Awuzie (hamstring) and CB Nolan Carroll (concussion) went down. This coming on top of the injury to Orlando Scandrick creates significant depth issues at the cornerback position. Awuzie and Carroll have both been held out of practice this week, however Scandrick was able to practice in a limited fashion on Friday and they expect him to play against the Cardinals.

Arizona: WR John Brown (quad) has been held out of practice so far this week and J.J. Nelson (hamstring) was limited in practice on Thursday and Friday. Both show up on the injury report for the Cardinals in Week 3. With Nelson’s participation, it is to be expected that he has a higher likelihood of playing this week than Brown.
