Mock Draft from Middle Pick (Fantasy Football)

Mock Draft from Middle Pick (Fantasy Football)

Today we are going to go through a Standard Mock that I decided to conduct from the six spot. The format is 12-team standard QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, TE, Flex, DEF, K, 6 BN. I treated this as if it were my real draft for my most important league. This is exactly what I would actually do. Here we go.

1.6 LeSean McCoy (RB – BUF) ECR #6, ADP #6
I’ve found that I like my teams a lot better when I go RB in the first round. With Ezekiel Elliott’s suspension, LeSean McCoy slips into that RB3 slot as the last member of the “big six.” I wouldn’t be upset with Julio Jones or Odell Beckham here, but Shady is the one I want and I got him.

2.7 Brandin Cooks (WR – NE) ECR #22, ADP #29
Regardless of format, I still love me some Brandin Cooks. The Julian Edelman ACL tear annoyed me not only because I hate seeing anyone get hurt, but because it has prompted the general public to view Cooks as highly as I already viewed him. I’m not sure if he will make it this far in most drafts. Cooks has weekly blowup potential with Tom Brady throwing him the ball.

3.6 Tom Brady (QB – NE) ECR #35, ADP #18
Regardless of format, I don’t like any of the RBs or WRs in the third round. Touchdowns are more important in standard and the top RBs and WRs aren’t really high upside touchdown guys (Carlos Hyde, Christian McCaffrey, Lamar Miller, Demaryius Thomas, DeAndre Hopkins). When in doubt, go with the elite QB. Do you know who is definitely throwing a bunch of touchdowns this year?

4.7 Jordan Reed (TE – WAS) ECR #53, ADP #47
I really wanted Tyreek Hill here, but he went the pick before me. Unfortunate. The remaining WRs at the top of the list are either on bad offenses or PPR guys (Allen Robinson, Keenan Allen, Golden Tate, Sammy Watkins). Michael Crabtree is there, too, but I am on board with the Amari Cooper ascension this year so I do not want Crabtree. I don’t like any of the RBs so the move is to take the best TE on the board, which is certainly not Travis Kelce. I understand Jordan Reed comes with the injury risk, which is probably why Kelce is ranked ahead of Reed, but Reed has been the best TE in fantasy on a per game basis over the past two seasons. He should go third round so this is value for me. Kelce does not score touchdowns. Reed does.

5.6 Kareem Hunt (RB – KC) ECR #55, ADP #75
It’s time to gamble at the RB2 position. With Spencer Ware’s season-ending injury, the door is open for Kareem Hunt to be an RB2. The people that think Charcandrick West is going to be irrelevant are fooling themselves. West will probably annoy Hunt just as much as Hunt was going to annoy Ware. For that reason, I am not on board with Hunt in the third or fourth round. We are now in the fifth round, and I don’t see anyone with as much upside as Hunt.

6.7 Tevin Coleman (RB – ATL) ECR #64, ADP #57
There’s a WR I want that I believe I can get next round. For that reason, I am going with Tevin Coleman here. Coleman is a great third RB option with his massive efficiency and touchdown upside. Even if he regresses a bit from last year’s level of production, that’s okay. I am not taking him in a spot where I need him to be great. I just need him to be useful.

7.6 Terrance West (RB – BAL) ECR #83, ADP #108
I look down at the board and I still think I can wait another round on my WR target. I am once again taking the gamble and going with my fourth RB. Terrance West is the starter in Baltimore and a better value than Danny Woodhead in standard. He’s a lock stock RB2 for me at an RB4 price.

8.7 Tyrell Williams (WR – LAC) ECR #90, ADP #114
My two-round gamble has paid off. I have not seen Tyrell Williams fall this late in any real draft I’ve done thus far. However, I got him here. Williams is the No. 2 receiver in Los Angeles and should be a lock for 100+ targets. If something were to happen to Keenan Allen, Williams becomes the top option and has WR1 upside. As it stands now, he already has WR2 upside.

9.6 Samaje Perine (RB – WAS) ECR #122, ADP #127
I think Rob Kelley is awful at football. Samaje Perine played behind Joe Mixon at Oklahoma (what a backfield!) and is a pro-ready prospect. He is my pick to be this year’s Jordan Howard. By Week 4 or 5, I expect Perine to unseat Kelley. Perine has RB2 upside. If I’m wrong, I can just drop him. No harm done. This is the type of pick I want to make as my RB5.

10.7 Jamaal Charles (RB – DEN) ECR #151, ADP #139
As you can see, I clearly don’t care about where the ECR or ADP say I should take Jamaal Charles. Here’s what I know. I watched Charles play in the Broncos’ third preseason game. He looked like Jamaal Charles. That’s enough for me to gamble on the future Hall of Famer in the 10th round. Just like with Perine, if I’m wrong, I can drop him. If I’m right, I get a timeshare back who could be a nice Flex option. If I’m really right, I could end up with an elite RB1 as maybe Charles just isn’t quite done yet.

11. 6 Ted Ginn (WR – NO) ECR #130, ADP #145
In a standard league, with your first WR off the bench, you want someone you can plug in that can win you a week. Ted Ginn fits the bill. He’s been playing ahead of Willie Snead in two-WR sets and can still take the top off. I’m well aware that he could give me 3-30 any given week. When I’m inserting Ginn into my lineup to cover a bye or an injury, I’m looking for the 4-110-1 game. That’s what Ginn gives you.

12.7 Robby Anderson (WR – NYJ) ECR #146, ADP #170
It is the 12th round, and Robby Anderson is the No. 1 receiver for an NFL team. That’s good enough for me.

13.6 Justin Tucker (K – BAL) ECR #168, ADP #112
I like Justin Tucker. He’s also the best kicker in NFL history. I am absolutely certain I will be able to take the player I want next round. I already have my plan at defense. There is no downside to getting the kicker I want. I would never advocate passing on a position player for a kicker. I am sure I am not doing that here.

14.7 Kevin White (WR – CHI) ECR #144, ADP #190
I do not like Kevin White at all. I don’t think he’s particularly good at football. He also can’t stay healthy. But right now, he’s the top guy in Chicago following Cameron Meredith‘s brutal leg injury. That’s worth a 14th-round pick.

15.6 Pittsburgh (DEF) ECR #214, ADP #175
Let’s see. The Steelers play DeShone Kizer Week 1. That’s good enough for me.
