Fantasy Baseball Streaming Hitters: Week 7

Fantasy Baseball Streaming Hitters: Week 7

Fantasy baseball managers looking for a buy-low player right now should target Corey Seager. The Dodgers shortstop, who had an ADP of 69, is off to a rough start. He is batting just .230 with two home runs in 156 plate appearances.

Digging deeper into his numbers paints a worse picture. Seager has a career-low barrel percentage, weighted on-base average, and exit velocity.

The 25-year-old suddenly got bad at baseball after two All-Star appearances? That is not what happened. Seager missed most of last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He is rounding into form and should produce like his old self soon. This could be your last chance to buy low.

A new week is about to kick off, and maximizing your games is an easy way to gain an advantage in head-to-head leagues. Here is a look at the schedule and top waiver-wire adds for the upcoming matchups.

A Look at the Schedule

Week 7 evens out the schedule. After a massive Week 6, fantasy managers are facing a light slate this week. Six teams (Orioles, Tigers, Brewers, Twins, Phillies, Pirates) have seven games in Week 7. Conversely, six organizations (Red Sox, Rockies, Dodgers, Marlins, Giants, Rays) play just five games. The remaining 18 teams have six games.

Fantasy players are going to want to maximize their seven-game options this week. Managers should avoid starting players with just five games in weekly leagues unless they are ranked inside the top 100. Here is a look at top pickups for Week 7 owned in less than 50 percent of Yahoo leagues.

Top Pickups

Niko Goodrum (1B/2B/3B/SS/OF – DET): 31% owned
Goodrum can provide some sneaky value in fantasy leagues. The 27-year-old had 16 home runs and 12 steals last year in just 492 plate appearances. Goodrum is hitting in the middle of the Tigers’ order and has eligibility at every position except catcher. He is a .271 hitter against lefties for his career, and the Tigers face two in Week 7. They also have seven home contests.

Odubel Herrera (OF – PHI): 35% owned
Herrera is coming off a season in which he hit 22 home runs with five steals while batting .255. He is a slightly better hitter against righties (.280 versus .275) for his career. The Phillies are set to have seven home games in Week 7 with six of them against right-handed starters. Herrera continues to hit sixth in a strong Philadelphia lineup as well.

Gregory Polanco (OF – PIT): 40% owned
Polanco is back from his shoulder surgery and has batted .308/.368/.519 in 13 games under his belt. He has had a least 22 homers and 12 steals in each of the last two seasons with over 500 plate appearances and is currently batting third for Pittsburgh as well.

The Pirates have seven road games in Week 7, playing three in Arizona before traveling to San Diego for four. They also face four lefties, putting Polanco at a significant platoon disadvantage (career .221 hitter vs. LHP, .264 vs. RHP). It is not the best schedule for Polanco, but he should be owned in more leagues.

Adam Frazier (2B/OF – PIT): 6% owned
The leadoff man for the Pirates in his first season as a full-time starter, Frazier is a bit overlooked this season. He is a career .278 hitter with a .343 on-base percentage. He also averages nine home runs and eight steals for every 540 plate appearances. That is not winning your league, but he’s a solid middle infield option.

While Frazier’s struggles to hit for any power against lefties (.049 ISO), he has at least held his own with a career .283 average. Expect him to continue his steady production in Week 7.

Marwin Gonzalez (1B/2B/3B/SS/OF – MIN): 24% owned
Gonzalez is another player with a ton of eligibility who should not hurt fantasy managers. He is off to a slow start but is a .261/.317/.413 career hitter. The 30-year-old also averages 15 home runs and seven steals every 550 plate appearances.

Nearly a neutral player against lefties and righties, Gonzalez should see plenty of at-bats. The Twins face the Angels and Mariners and have plenty of favorable matchups in the week ahead.

Mitch Garver (C – MIN): 38% owned
Garver is getting lots of playing time at catcher with Willians Astudillo on the injured list and Jason Castro also banged up. He is absolutely crushing the ball, too, hitting .354 with a .408 OBP and seven home runs in just 71 plate appearances. Mike Trout could not sustain those numbers, but ride a hot hand if Garver is playing.

For his career, Garver hits better against righties (.279/.347/.486), and the Twins are scheduled to face five in Week 7. That should keep him in the lineup even with Astudillo on the verge of returning.

C.J. Cron (1B – MIN): 19% owned
Cron hit 30 home runs with a .253 average last season, and he already has seven in 2019. Every player hits for power in 2019, but adding Cron could still give your team a boost. The right-handed slugger has no notable platoon splits, so he should start and perform well versus a righty-heavy schedule.
