Pitcher

James Paxton (NYY): $9,600 at BAL
With only eight teams on this slate, let’s go with the safest pitcher of the bunch. The funny thing about that is that Paxton has been anything but safe, as he’s currently in one of the worst stretches of his career. That bad form has lowered his price to this intriguing number, though, and we can’t fade him at this price in such a tasty matchup. We’re still talking about a pitcher with a 3.30 career FIP and 29 percent K rate. That’s obviously big against Baltimore, with the Orioles sitting 22nd in K rate, 28th in xwOBA, 26th in OBP, and 25th in OPS. Not to mention, Paxton enters this game as a -225 favorite.

Catcher/First Base

Eric Thames (MIL): $2,500 at PIT
This price really surprises me. Thames has done nothing but kill right-handers since coming over from Japan, and it’s a wonder why FanDuel continues to disrespect him with this price. Since 2017, Thames has provided a .356 OBP, .522 SLG, and .878 OPS against right-handed pitching. That’s why he always finds himself in the heart of the lineup with the platoon advantage in his favor, and it’s definitely not a matchup we need to avoid. Thames faces Trevor Williams, who’s pitching to a 6.64 ERA and 1.57 WHIP over his last seven starts.
