Deshaun Watson negotiating settlement with NFL

The NFL and Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson are “actively negotiating a settlement on his discipline” and could reach an agreement soon, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. (Source: Cleveland.com)

Fantasy Impact: Although negotiations are gaining steam between the two parties, Cabot notes that the NFL has not reached out to Peter C. Harvey, the judge who is hearing the league’s appeal on Watson’s potential six-game suspension. At this time, there’s no reason to believe that the NFL will ask him to hold off on his ruling unless the league and Watson reach a settlement. Cabot also notes that any settlement would allow Watson to play football in 2022. With his status still up in the air, Watson ranks as low as QB30 in the latest ECR.

Lamar Jackson will miss second preseason game

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said that QB Lamar Jackson will miss Week 2 of NFL preseason. (Source: Adam Schefter on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Jackson missed the team’s first preseason game and will now miss the second one. It’s not exactly clear if his time off is related to his ongoing contract situation or if it’s out of precaution, but the Ravens will have to aim for their 22nd preseason win in a row without the MVP-winning QB.

Baker Mayfield expected to be named Week 1 starter

According to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, QB Baker Mayfield is expected to be named the starter for the Carolina Panthers for Week 1 when the organization is ready to make an announcement. (Source: Jeff Howe on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Mayfield has been competing with the incumbent QB Sam Darnold, but as Week 2 of the preseason approaches, the expectation is Mayfield will start in the regular season. The Panthers made a move to pick up Mayfield in the offseason and he is currently going as the QB25 according to FantasyPros average draft position. Mayfield could potentially revive his career in a new destination with weapons like WR DJ Moore and RB Christian McCaffrey at his disposal.

Kirk Cousins (COVID-19) cleared to practice Wednesday

Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins has been cleared to practice after spending five days away from the team facility following his COVID-19 diagnosis, according to Kevin Seifert of ESPN. (Source: ESPN)

Fantasy Impact: Cousins is expected to return to his normal workload immediately, which is important because the Vikings have two days of pivotal joint practices with the 49ers. The 34-year-old ranks 14th among quarterbacks in the latest ECR.

Julio Jones practicing this week, won’t play Saturday

Buccaneers veteran wide receiver Julio Jones “will get work in during practice this week but will not play on Saturday,” according to a tweet from Pewter Report. (Source: Pewter Report on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Jones signed with the Buccaneers in July following Rob Gronkowski’s retirement. With Chris Godwin (ACL) currently sidelined, the 33-year-old is competing for the No. 2 role alongside reliable receiver Mike Evans. Jones spent 2021 with the Titans, catching just 31 passes for 434 yards and one touchdown through 10 games. Heading into 2022, he ranks 61st among wide receivers in the latest ECR.
