Nick Martinez roughed up by Rays Wednesday night

by Steve Painter | Reds Correspondent | Wed, May 31st 12:02am EDT

Nick Martinez allowed six hits and five runs while walking two and striking out three over 4 1/3 innings Wednesday night against Tampa Bay in Arlington. Three of the hits allowed by Martinez were home runs, accounting for four of the runs he allowed. The Rangers' bullpen shut the Rays out the rest of the way and Texas emerged as the victor by a score of 9-5, thereby giving Martinez a no-decision. He will pitch again on Tuesday against Jacob deGrom and the Mets in Arlington.

Fantasy Impact:

With Tyson Ross set to return and A.J. Griffin out for a short period, Martinez may find his shelf life in the rotation a short one. He has failed to impress thus far, with a 5.87 FIP and a 5.24 ERA, so he might be headed to the bullpen soon.
