Nick Markakis wins first Silver Slugger Award

by Steve Painter | Thu, Nov 8th 6:52pm EST

Nick Markakis won his first Silver Slugger Award Thursday to cap a terrific 2018 campaign. "MLB coaches and managers vote each season for the players they feel are the top offensive producers at each position in the field in the American League and National League. Voters base their selections on a combination of offensive statistics, including batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage, as well as their general impressions of a player's overall offensive value. Managers and coaches are not allowed to vote for players on their own team." (mlb.com)

Fantasy Impact:

Markakis had a sensational year, enjoying his first All-Star Game, a Gold Glove Award, and a Silver Slugger Award. He is a free-agent now, turning 35 in nine days, the Braves want him back but that decision is up to Markakis. Markakis' stat line for 2018 was .297/.366/.440 with 43 doubles, 14 homers, 93 RBI, and 78 runs scored. He held an impressive .345 wOBA.
