Joey Votto drives in a run in win Monday

by Elliott Baas | Blue Jays Correspondent | Tue, May 7th 12:52am EDT

Joey Votto went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in the Reds' 12-4 win over the Giants on Monday.

Fantasy Impact:

This was Votto's first multi-hit game of May, and he raised his average to a cool .226 after this one. The veteran first baseman has had his share of struggles at the plate so far, that's for sure, but what's troubling is a lack of power. His 88.4 MPH average exit velocity is barely above league average and his .139 ISO is the second lowest of his career, just slightly above last year's .135 mark. His 25.2% strikeout rate would also be a career worst by 6%. While we should hesitate to call Votto done, the man's been a superstar for the last decade, there are legitimate worrying signs here. It's unlikely Votto could be traded for decent value, so his owners are stuck riding it out. He's turned things around before, so hopefully the 35-year-old has a little magic left in him.
