Marco Gonzales picks up the win despite surrendering five runs

by Jon Mathisen | Pirates Correspondent | Mon, Sep 14th 10:11pm EDT

Marco Gonzales picked up his sixth win of the season on Monday when he allowed five runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and one walk over six innings in Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader against the A's.

Fantasy Impact:

This was an uncharacteristic start for the Mariners ace as he surrendered a season-high five runs and two homers. He hung in there, though, and still managed to strike out seven and pitched deep enough for the M's to retake the lead and get him the win. He'll carry a 3.49 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, and a 53:5 K/BB ratio across 56 2/3 innings (nine starts) into his next outing, a tough test against the Padres at home.
