Joe Musgrove gave up 2 earned runs in 7 innings pitched in the Padres' loss to the Brewers on Monday. Musgrove struck out 13 in the outing and walked 1.
Fantasy Impact:
Musgrove set a new career high in strikeouts on Monday with 13. Unfortunately for Musgrove, his offense provided him with very little run support and his 7 innings of good work resulted in a loss. Despite only being 2-2 on the season, Musgrove is off to a tremendous start in 2021. Through 4 starts he has posted a 1.04 ERA and 1.20 WHIP. It's worth noting that Musgrove hasn't faced a top level offense so far this season. He'll be tested seriously for the first time this weekend when he faces a potent Dodgers' lineup. Fantasy managers in leagues with daily lineup changes should take a good hard look at what they need in their weekly matchup before sticking Musgrove out there for his start in LA. Considering his start to the season, there's reason to be optimistic about Musgrove -- however, his start this weekend will go a long way in telling us if Musgrove has truly taken the next step in his career development.
