The Rays called upon Ryan Yarbrough to fill a bulk-innings role in relief of opener Matt Wisler against the Blue Jays on Thursday. He took the mound in the second inning and lasted 5 1/3 frames, allowing four runs, eight hits, and one walk. He struck out zero batters and was charged with the loss. Tampa Bay ultimately fell to Toronto by a score of 4-1.
Yarbrough has struggled tremendously this season, going 0-4 with a 5.82 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, and .300 OBA through eight games (six starts). Thursday's outing was his first since June 5, when he allowed six runs over 1 2/3 innings. He was optioned to the minors shortly after that game.
