Jon Lester shuts down the Phillies again

by Chris Zolli | Mon, Jun 6th 10:41pm EDT

For the second time in three starts, Jon Lester pitched brilliantly for the Cubs against the Phillies, earning another win with his eight shutout innings on Monday night. Lester allowed four hits while striking out nine batters without a walk and now has a 2.06 ERA and 0.97 WHIP this season. He will face the Braves next on Sunday.

Fantasy Impact:

Lester has turned into the other SP1 in the Cubs' rotation, registering 10 quality starts in 12 starts (he allowed no runs in 5 2/3 innings as well), and has now also struck out at least seven batters in each of his last three starts. The Cubs had a 6-0 lead going into the ninth inning or else Lester would have registered his second consecutive complete game as well, as he had only thrown 95 pitches through eight innings, and he ranks top-10 in the National League in ERA (2.06),WHIP (0.97) wins (7), innings pitched (78 2/3), and strikeouts (78). Fantasy owners should look for Lester's hot streak to continue against Atlanta, as current Braves' hitters have a .586 OPS in 234 at-bats against the left-handed ace.
