Jon Heyman of the MLB Network is reporting that Major League Baseball proposed a 154-game season and an expanded playoffs to the MLBPA on Friday.
Fantasy Impact
If approved, the MLB season would be delayed by a month and extended by a week. The offer also includes an expanded playoffs and a universal DH. MLBPA is “considering” the proposal and expected to decide soon. Fantasy managers should have a good idea when the 2021 MLB season will start once a decision is made on the latest proposal. Stay tuned.
Lefty Andy Oliver was placed on waivers by the Phillies.
Fantasy Impact
This news is certainty shocking due to Mario Hollands' injury and the fact that he look pretty good this spring. It is likely that he draws some interest on waivers.
With less than two weeks before the start of the regular season, the Philadelphia Phillies still have roster spots up for grabs. One area of competition is the bullpen. Andy Oliver is in the mix for a spot and has been pitching very well this spring. He had a little stumble against the Red Sox on Sunday, allowing 2 earned runs and 3 hits in 1 2/3 innings. But he stuck out 3 and his ERA in Grapefruit League play is a slim 2.16.
Fantasy Impact
The up and down outing for Oliver was the first time he's given up a run all spring. With Mario Hollands on the shelf, Oliver has an excellent chance to make the Phillies Opening Day roster as one of two lefties out of the bullpen.
The Philadelphia Phillies got excellent relief pitching in their 7-3 win over the New York Yankees on Thursday. Andy Oliver was particularly impressive, allowing no hits, walks or runs while striking out 4 in 1 2/3 innings. Oliver recorded his second win of the spring and has yet to allow an earned run in 6 innings this spring.
Fantasy Impact
Oliver has been extremely impressive in Grapefruit League Play. He's struck out 13 in 6 2/3 innings and has a miniscule WHIP of 0.60. Oliver hasn't pitched a Major League regular season game since 2011 and is 0-5 with an ERA of 7.11 for his career. Oliver will likely land in Triple-A back in the Pirates organization should he fail to make the Phillies roster. He could be one of the first pitchers called up should anyone struggle or get injured.
