What should fantasy owners expect of Booker this season?

There is lots of buzz recently surrounding Devontae Booker. As his touches increase and CJ Anderson continues to sputter, Booker has become a hot name on the waiver wire. He looked very good against the Chargers and is becoming legitimate of consideration for our fantasy teams.

Is he worth a roster spot?

For CJ Anderson owners, Booker is a must have. I’m not a big handcuff believer in all cases, but in spots where the backup looks just as good, I can get behind that. For all of us other team owners out there, the situation is a little less clear. Yes, Booker has looked really good lately. Over the past four games, he has 34 carries for 161 yards, or just under five yards per tote. Meanwhile, CJ Anderson has only three more yards (164) on 20 more carries (54 carries total), for a very pedestrian three yards per carry. Coach Kubiak has said he wants to get Booker more involved, but keep in mind the Broncos just gave Anderson a new contract and it’s very likely he will just disappear.

Barring an injury, this looks like a timeshare/hot hand approach at best. It’s hard to visualize Booker just taking over and running away with the starting role. Anderson will be there and will continue to get his carries. These two running backs will start to cancel each other out and unless there is extreme performance (either running back is either very good or very bad) it’s likely they will share the backfield. In spite of all of the buzz around Booker, I don’t think he’s worth a roster spot for those who don’t own Anderson, especially on the verge of the most bye heavy weeks.
