FanDuel MLB Value Plays: Wednesday (5/3)

Welcome to the Wednesday edition of the FanDuel MLB value plays. All 30 teams are in play tonight, but we will want to keep an eye on the weather in a couple of locations. Be sure to check the team lineups as they are released to make sure these players are in fact in the lineup. Let’s go ahead and take a look at my favorite value options for the day.

Pitcher

Antonio Senzatela (COL): $6,700 at SD
Senzatela has quite possibly the most positive park shift for a pitcher as he moves from Coors Field to Petco Park tonight. Senzatela has been excellent so far this season through his first five starts of the season with a 2.81 ERA. The Padres, on the other hand, have not done well against right-handed pitchers, with only an 86 wRC+ while striking out a league high 26.1% of the time.

Catcher

Derek Norris (TB): $2,300 vs. MIA
If you’re looking for a decent punt option tonight at catcher, consider using Norris. Norris has not been good this season, but historically he has done well against left-handed pitchers with a career 0.347 wOBA and a 0.172 ISO.

First Base

Eric Hosmer (KC): $2,800 vs. CHW
Hosmer is never a guy who I’m really looking to roster in GPP contests, but he is normally a pretty safe option in cash game lineups since he does not strike out much. Tonight he has an excellent matchup against Mike Pelfrey, who is a pitcher we definitely want to have some exposure to.

Second Base

Jed Lowrie (OAK): $2,300 at MIN
Don’t look now, but Lowrie is off to a pretty nice start to the 2017 season with a 123 wRC+. His advanced metrics seem to suggest that is not necessarily a fluke either since he is making pretty good contact with a 41.0% hard contact percentage. Tonight he has a decent matchup against Hector Santiago, who has not been a great pitcher throughout his career.

Third Base

Evan Longoria (TB): $2,900 vs. MIA
Longoria has sat out the past two games with a foot injury, but it sounds like he should be back in the lineup tonight against the left-handed Adam Conley. Longoria has been great against southpaws over the course of his career with a 0.376 wOBA and a 0.241 ISO, while Conley has really struggled through his first four starts of the 2017 season.

Shortstop

Elvis Andrus (TEX): $2,900 at HOU
Shortstop is probably not a position I’m looking to go the value route tonight unless one of the punt options happens to end up near the top of the order. However, if you are looking to go the value route, consider using Andrus. Andrus is starting to heat back up again with three multi-hit games in his last five, and he’s always a threat to a steal a base. Tonight he has a decent matchup against Charlie Morton who has really struggled against right-handed hitters in 2017, allowing a 0.444 wOBA and a 46.2% hard contact percentage.

Outfielders

Carlos Gonzalez (COL): $2,800 @ SD
Gonzalez has struggled so far in 2017, but I believe that tonight is a great night to buy low on him, especially in GPP contests. He will likely be really low owned since the Rockies are away from Coors Field, but he still has a matchup against Jered Weaver, who is an awful pitcher at this stage of his career.

Rickie Weeks (TB): $2,200 vs. MIA
Another cheap, right-handed hitter who we can use against Conley is Weeks. Weeks has always crushed lefties over the course of his career with a 0.370 wOBA and a 0.196 ISO.

Cody Bellinger (LAD): $2,600 vs. SF
Bellinger is starting to show what he is capable of doing at the MLB level with multiple hits in four of his last five starts, including four extra-base hits during that span. Tonight he has a decent matchup against Jeff Samardzija who has really struggled against left-handed hitters so far in 2017. In his first five starts, he has allowed a 0.506 wOBA and five home runs to left-handed hitters.
