Fantasy Baseball Pitching Streamers: Week 9

Fantasy Baseball Pitching Streamers: Week 9

Here we go with the ninth week of finding ignored pitchers who turn serviceable for a day. Please take note that rotations are still dicey early in the season, so most of these streaming options are projected starters who aren’t set in stone. That especially holds true for games played later in the week, so be sure to double-check the official announcements as we move closer to each date. Got it? Good!

Take note that we are looking for pitchers who are owned in less than 30 percent of Yahoo leagues. Occasionally a recommendation will exceed that threshold if they are in a particularly favorable streaming situation.

Now let’s dive into the good stuff!

Monday, May 27

Lance Lynn (TEX) at Seattle (21%)
Lynn started the season slowly, but he has really picked things up lately while allowing just three earned runs through 14 innings over his last two starts. That includes a seven-inning, 11-strikeout, and two-earned-run performance against Seattle last Thursday. He’ll face the Mariners on the road this time and checks in as an appealing streaming option.

Other Options: Daniel Norris (DET) at BAL (3%), Aaron Sanchez (TOR) at TB (22%)

Tuesday, May 28

Trevor Richards (MIA) vs. San Francisco (10%)
Richards isn’t anything special, but he’s looking at a pair of quality matchups with a 10% ownership rate. While he doesn’t have a ton of upside, I don’t believe he’ll hurt your squad while pitching in Marlins Park against a San Francisco offense that ranks 27th in wRC+. The Giants also carry an above-average strikeout rate (24.6%). The fact that Richards is a two-start pitcher helps the motivation for adding him.

Other Options: None

Wednesday, May 29

Daniel Mengden (OAK) vs. LA Angels (8%)
Mengden is somewhat of a risk/reward pick in this spot. He twirled a gem (7 IP, 1 ER, 5 K, W) at Detroit on May 18, but his last start against Seattle (4 IP, 1 ER, 4 K) was plagued by five walks. He carries a fair amount of upside as long as his control is within reason. Starting in his pitcher-friendly home ballpark should help.

Other Options: Anthony DeSclafani (CIN) vs. PIT (16%), Griffin Canning (LAA) at OAK (32%)

Thursday, May 30

Chase Anderson (MIL) at Pittsburgh (16%)
Anderson is another mediocre pitcher in a nice matchup. He’s a few starts removed from the injured list, so hopefully his pitch count starts ramping up. The draw is a good one against a Pittsburgh team that ranks 21st in wRC+, and the pitcher-friendly environment of PNC Park could hide potential mistakes. Anderson has racked up 29 strikeouts through 27.2 innings this season, so there’s some upside in that department as well.

Other Options: Tyler Skaggs (LAA) at SEA (30%)

Friday, May 31

Kyle Gibson (MIN) at Tampa Bay (38%)
Gibson is marginally above our 30% streaming threshold, but he’s a strong option if available your league. After all, he is the mascot of this weekly column, so I have to give him love. He was dropped in several leagues after surrendering four earned runs through six innings (six strikeouts) at Seattle on May 19. Gibson’s ownership could rise with a bounce-back outing against the White Sox on Saturday, and the Twins’ surging offense always gives him a chance at the win.

Other Options: Cal Quantrill (SD) vs. Miami (2%), Spencer Turnbull (DET) at ATL (40%)

Saturday, June 1

Lance Lynn (TEX) vs. Kansas City (21%)
Here we go again with Lynn, as I documented his recent success earlier. He has a nice home draw Saturday against the Royals, who rank 19th in wRC+ this season. Finding low-owned pitchers with legitimacy and two starts in a week doesn’t come easily. Lynn fits the bill, and I would advise picking him up in standard leagues for both of these matchups.

Other Options: Danny Duffy (KC) at TEX (12%), Jose Urena (MIA) at SD (5%)

Sunday, June 2

Trevor Richards (MIA) at San Diego (10%)
Lynn and Richards are two-start pitchers worthy of an add if you have enough room on your fantasy squad, especially in deeper leagues. Richards will have a confident matchup against the Giants earlier in the week, and Sunday’s draw looks good against a Padres offense that carries the highest strikeout rate (27.1%) while ranking 22nd in wRC+. Petco Park tends to favor pitching as well.

Other Options: Danny Duffy (KC) at TEX (12%)
