Can Tee Higgins Carve out a Role in the Bengals Offense? (2020 Fantasy Football)

It seems that the Bengals have turned a corner and now have at least a respectable offense, albeit a crowded one. So will Tee Higgins be able to carve out a consistent role for himself? Let’s dig in.

A 2020 second-round pick, Higgins burst onto the scene in Week 3 with five catches for 40 yards and two touchdowns on nine targets. In Week 4, he posted four receptions for 77 yards on seven targets.

In their Week 4 contest against the Jaguars, only Tyler Boyd out-produced Higgins. He notched seven receptions for 90 yards on eight targets. Higgins was second on the team in receiving yards and targets, although Joe Mixon also recorded five receptions to Higgins’s four.

Tyler Boyd is probably locked in as the number one option, but the real question with Higgins is whether or not he can overtake A.J. Green as the second option. In the past two weeks, Higgins has nine receptions for 107 yards on 16 targets with two touchdowns, while A.J. Green recorded six receptions for 39 yards on 11 targets, which signifies a clear advantage for Higgins.

Over the next five weeks, all of the Bengals’ opponents are in the top half of the NFL in offensive scoring, so the Bengals will likely be throwing plenty, which clearly helps Higgins’ volume.

The Bengals offense likely can’t sustain two consistently high-scoring fantasy wide receivers, but Higgins has some upside as a WR3 or FLEX moving forward. That said, we have a small sample size to evaluate him with, but he has been productive thus far. And, most importantly, he has out-produced A.J. Green.

Higgins is a high-upside stash that probably shouldn’t be more than a FLEX right now, but if his development continues and he cements his place as the number two receiver, he should continue to produce in a constantly-developing Bengals offense.
