Hector Neris tosses a perfect inning

by Mike Maher | Cubs Correspondent | Fri, May 26th 2:09pm EDT

Hector Neris pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the Phillies in a tie game on Thursday, a game they would go on to win in the 11th. Neris threw all 10 of his pitches for strikes, did not allow a baserunner, and struck out one of the three batters he faced.

Fantasy Impact:

This was the fourth straight scoreless appearance for Neris, who is trying to separate himself from the pack in the closer committee in Philadelphia. He lowered his ERA to 3.22 and his WHIP to 1.07. He has just four saves on the year but, at least for now, he seems to have the inside track for the closer job.
