Ortiz allowed just one earned run over eight innings, striking out five and walking two in a 3-1 victory over Miami on Friday.

The Pirates' starter was dominant throughout the game, allowing only seven hits and keeping the Marlins' offense at bay. This was a much-needed strong outing for Ortiz, who had struggled earlier in the season, but was able to lower his ERA to 3.74 and his WHIP to 1.62 through nine games.
