Paul Skenes Solid, Pirates Fall Short in Thriller

by Chase Davis | Pirates Correspondent | Fri, May 24th 8:44am EDT

Paul Skenes turned in a quality start, allowing just one earned run on six hits and one walk while striking out three over six innings in Thursday's 7-6 loss to the Giants.

Fantasy Impact:

Despite his solid performance, Skenes didn't factor into the decision, a recurring theme that might frustrate fantasy managers given his strong underlying metrics. Most importantly, though, he was able to get up to 93 pitches after 100 last outing. With a season ERA now at 2.25 and a WHIP holding steady at 1.00, Skenes continues to demonstrate high-level pitching prowess. His 11.8 K/9 ratio is particularly enticing for fantasy players looking for strikeouts, although today's lower strikeout count might raise a few eyebrows. However, given his overall performance and low FIP of 2.26, Skenes remains a high-upside option in fantasy leagues, especially if the Pirates' offense can provide more consistent support.
