Paul Goldschmidt has two hits, two walks against Cardinals

by Tony Pontecorvo | Cardinals Correspondent | Sat, May 21st 2:30am EDT

Paul Goldschmidt both walked (twice) and drove in a run for the fifth straight game, going 2-for-3 as he continues to try and return to his 2015 pace. The two hits raised his 2016 batting average to .236. The run batted in was his 24th.

Fantasy Impact:

For all the talk about Goldschmidt's struggles, his OBP is .405 thanks to his 42 walks, which trails only Bryce Harper (46) in the majors. While he only has eight home runs and five stolen bases, one hot two-week stretch in either category and he returns to his career norm in those stats. His BABIP of .269 is rising, but still over .100 below the .382 he posted in 2015 and significantly lower than his career average of .350. Other advanced stats indicate some early-season struggles with mechanics or timing, but any window to acquire Goldschmidt at a discount is likely closing soon.
