Colin Kaepernick officially opts out of contract

by Anthony Cervino | Fri, Mar 3rd 3:38pm EST

ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has officially opted out of his contract. He is a free agent. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

As expected, Kaepernick is now a free agent as he opted out of his contract Friday. Kaepernick, who was the subject of both scrutiny and praise for taking a knee during every national anthem throughout the course of the 2016 season, has told the media that he will stand for the anthem moving forward. His decision to no longer kneel was likely made, and made public, in an attempt to broaden his range of suitors in free agency. The Jets, who had an interest in Kaepernick last offseason, could once again pursue the 29-year-old signal caller this time around. Expect the Browns to be in the mix for his services as well.
