Melvin Gordon holdout could last into the regular season

by Mike Maher | Fri, Jul 26th 7:40am EDT

The Los Angeles Chargers and running back Melvin Gordon have exchanged contract proposals in recent days, but talks are "not in a good spot" and Gordon is not expected to report to camp anytime soon, according to a report from NFL insider Adam Schefter. Schefter adds that Gordon's holdout could last into the regular season. (Adam Schefter, ESPN.com)

Fantasy Impact:

A Gordon holdout would mean opportunities for Austin Ekeler, Justin Jackson, and Detrez Newsome in the Los Angeles backfield. Ekeler is the popular choice to step in as the lead back, but the Chargers have been talking up Jackson as they head into training camp. Gordon is in the final year of his rookie contract and has told the Chargers he will hold out and demand a trade if the two sides do not agree on a new contract.
