Running back Ezekiel Elliott and the Dallas Cowboys are close to completing a contract extension, according to Yahoo senior NFL reporter Charles Robinson. (Charles Robinson on Twitter)

Word broke heading into the weekend that talks between the Cowboys and Elliott were intensifying but that there were still several obstacles. With Dallas only keeping two running backs on their active roster, many expected that a deal with Elliott could be close. Now, Charles Robinson is reporting that they are indeed close to agreeing on an extension. With a week to go before their regular-season opener against the New York Giants, Elliott could still potentially be active for that game if he signs today and shows up to the team facilities in game-ready shape.
