Cam Newton remains Patriots' starting QB, per Bill Belichick

Patriots coach Bill Belichick says Cam Newton remains the team's starting quarterback despite the first-round selection of Alabama QB Mac Jones. (Mike Reiss on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

“Cam’s our quarterback," Belichick said. "Whatever time Jarrett (Stidham) or Mac are ready to challenge and compete, then we’ll see how that goes.” It wasn't like Belichick was going to name Jones the starter right away, so this quote shouldn't surprise anyone. It's extremely likely that the first-round rookie starts games in 2021, but perhaps Newton still opens the year as New England's starter. Unless he plays exceptionally well and the Patriots are winning games, the passing of the torch should happen in due time.
