Tom Brady (personal) expected to be away from team through next week

by Luke Monaldo | Thu, Aug 11th 2:45pm EDT

Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles announced Thursday that quarterback Tom Brady will be away from the team until after their second preseason game against the Titans as reported by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Brady was absent from practice on Thursday, his second excused absence of the week, and will be away until at least August 20 as he deals with a personal situation. Bowles said "He's gonna deal with some personal things" and that "this is something [they] talked about before training camp started." Apparently the plan, "scheduled way before training camp" was always for Brady to report to camp to gain chemistry with his teammates but not play in the first two preseason games. The good news for fantasy managers is that this is not unexpected in any way and has absolutely nothing to do with his health or status for Week 1. Bowles, however, did not offer any details about Brady's personal matters. Tampa Bay will open their preseason on Saturday night against the Dolphins in a game that no one expected Brady to play in even before the news came out of Buccaneers camp on Thursday. Tampa Bay will play Blaine Gabbert, Kyle Trask, and Ryan Griffin while Brady is away from the team as they all vie for to be the 7-time Super Bowl Champions' backup this season.
