Geno Smith to prove he is 'a good starter' in training camp

The New York Jets are entering the training camp portion of the offseason without last year's starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick as he remains unsigned. Head coach Todd Bowles addressed the dilemma of possibly entering the campaign with Geno Smith under center with the New York Daily News this weekend. “I think Geno can be a good starter, but he’s got to prove it in training camp like everybody else,” Bowles said. “It’s not just about the quarterback position. You got to have a team around that position to play ball, but he’s been in the system a year. He has a better grasp of it going into training camp and we’ll see what he does.” (New York Daily News)

Fantasy Impact:

It appears that Geno Smith will enter the upcoming season as the starting quarterback of the New York Jets. The three-year veteran has yet to prove he can produce and win in the NFL in the chances he's received in is first two years in the league. For fantasy football purposes, Smith should remain on the waiver wire entering the 2016 season despite the talent that the Jets have installed around him. Keep in mind that Ryan Fitzpatrick could still strike a deal with New York prior to Week 1 and immediately take over the starting job as he is familiar with the offensive system.
