Bobby Sylvester’s NFL Wild Card & Playoff Rankings

Bobby Sylvester’s NFL Wild Card & Playoff Rankings

You thought I was going to stop doing rankings just because the season-long fantasy leagues were over? No way, there is still plenty of competition to be had out there, and while the league settings may vary substantially, I’ll give you my baseline rankings and you can apply them to your league however you see fit. Or, as always, you can ask me questions on Twitter and I’ll do my best to respond to them all.  I’ll show you my Wild Card round rankings as well as my full-playoff rankings but before I do, let me explain four of the most controversial ones.

Eric Decker (Wild Card WR #14)
This probably makes you cringe and I can’t say I blame you considering the total bust he was this season. With that said, Decker really started to come around over the final month. His 32 targets over the last 5 games led both Rishard Matthews (19) and Corey Davis (26). As you would expect, that has led to a few solid games. Seeing that he has been a touchdown machine for most of his career, it isn’t crazy to suggest he is a decent bet to score one in what will likely be a negative game script with tons of passing.

Blake Bortles (Wild Card QB #4)
You can say Bortles is playing terrible football lately and you’d be right, but he has had just one bad fantasy games in nearly two months. In fact, his three recent games of 25 fantasy points has him as the QB #2 since Week 12 even despite last week’s bust performance. Now, the Bills aren’t the easiest matchup in the world, but neither were the Seahawks, Chargers or Ravens and he handled them all just fine.

Case Keenum (Playoffs QB #3)
Most of this comes down to strategy more than ability and strength of schedule. Yes, the Vikings get a bye, but they are also the favorite to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. That would see them playing 3 games, and if he continues his trend of 18.4 fantasy points per game (since Week 8), then he would outperform Alex Smith with 1 or 2 games and Matt Ryan with 1. The logic is simple, but many will overlook Keenum because he isn’t a big name.

Todd Gurley (Playoffs RB #5)
This is the reverse of the previous equation. Sure, the Rams are expected to win in Week 1, but it is by no means a gimme. Their season likely ends there, and while two games of Gurley is terrific, I’d easily take three games of either Saints running back instead. Plus, Fournette has potentially three cake matchups against three of the worst running defenses in football.
